0711703 Or PITTSBURGH GAIESTTE,
MONDAST. June 28, 1869.
-The entire market ppened strong
day, with an advancing tendency,
account of the easier money mar.
Gold opened at 13734, advanced to 1..
and" closed at 137%, yielding - *.
E2l
money became more stringent. The
large holders are evidently determined
1 .1
to keep up the price of gold, and, he '
heavy rates they pay for carrying it
shows their ultimate intentions.
Government bonds were dull a d
lower for the old bonds, but strong for
the July bonds. - There is, however,
not the demand for bonds th at was ex
pected a short time since. . •
Stocks opened with a strong advanc
ing tendency, and nearly all the stocks
were higher. =At the close a sharp reac
tion took place and the decline was from
2 to 8 per cent.
Money is not as easy as it was at the
close of last week, and the approach of
July settlements no doubt will cause a
great pinch in the money market.

The Money market was very easy at 7
per cent: currency during the morning,
but after one o'clock the rates of interest
began to harden, and about the close 01
bank hours the strinrncy was greater
than at, any previoukperiod since money
pressures in the rates on call were 1-32
per cent. per diem, and interest %,
and 34 per cent. to flat, the latter equal
to 4823, per cant. per annum. The
stringency is understood to be wholly ar
tificial. Sterling is firm at 109%(4109,44.
Gold opened dull at 137%, advanded to
187%, fell-to 13734, and closed at 13735.
The carrying rates were 7,58 per c ent.
