The gold premium, after receding tri

feeling. The high rates of interest make
it very expensive to carry gold and
some of the long. holders are comnelled
to sell, but all those who have carried
gold for some time are very sanguine in
their views and e.xpect high ratesjust as
soon as the effect' of the July payments
has passed away.
Irt Government bonds the feeling s is
less firm, although prices did not yield.
Stocks are firmer and higher, closing
with an advance of about one•per cent.
