Already over 1,018,750 quarts of strawberries have been sent over, the railroads, and the season is not yet Closed. This quantity does not include the shipments by water, or the berries -taken by the fruit canning establishments, or - converted into wine. It is calculated that the crop of the entire peninsula will yield over two million quarts, or 62,500 bushels. The shipments of cherries and peas have also been large, and the early potatoes are also coming into the market in large quantities. The blackberry and huckleberry crops are also extraordinary, ' and it is anticipated that the estimate of 21,000 quarts of the raspberry will fall below the quantity actually sent to the Northern cities. The peach crop will also be abundant, and agents are already in Delaware buying the fruit while on the trees. The railroad companies have prepared over four hundred properly ven tilated and shelved cars for the transpor tation of the peaches. It is believed that these arrangements will be hardly suffi cient to move the fruit, and that more cars and sailing vessels will be required. The inhabitants of Delawar.2 are congrat ulating themselves that the peninsula, which has been impoverished by failures in fonxier years, is now favored with un precedented mops, and that comfort and happiness will be restored to hundreds of homes w - heie want and miaery, have pre vailed for the past two years. Com. Cirrrrso MACMNEIZY.—In Eng land a number of patents -- hive been taken out for coal cutting machines, but so far, only two have proved a success on trial. The London Mining , journal, however, speaks of a machine invented by Messrs. Firth At Davisthorpe, several of which have been used in the Hetton Colliery several years, which is said to answer the purpose, and is quite econom ical. The Journal also speaks of Chnbbs' invention for breaking down coal, which has, we are informed, been tried in South Wales, and it is said with great success. "It consists of a number of plungers, acted upon by a hydraulic pump. It is said that= with the apparatus two men could readily break down twenty tons of coal in an hour, the whole of the coal so obtained being in large blocks. If such Is really the fact, and we have no reason to doubt it, and as the cost of the neces sary tools and appliances would be noin-__ paratively small, we should like to hear more of it, or see the work which it does." THE Philadelphia Ledger says: The following statement shows the number of square feet in the Squares and Parks in this city: Independence Square, 2 03,351 feet; Washington Square, 291,780; Frank. lin 5quare,343,942; Jefferson Square, 113,484; Rittenhouse Square, 291,780; Logan Square, 841,289; Penn Squares —there are four of these Squares, at the intersection of Broad and Market streets —Northwest Square, 68,238 feet; South weat Square, 51,290; Soutfieast Spare, 53;4-10; Northeast Square; 69,768; Norris Square, 160,380 ; Kensington Square, 12,288; Fairhill Square, 105,000; Ger-. mantown Square, 2,880. The public Square known as the parade ground, in the rear 'of the County Prison, measures about' 400,000 square feet.
