,The river was about at , a stand last
evening with eight feet in the channel
by the Monongahela marks. Weather
cloudy, but somewhat cooler.
There was a little more activity mani
fested at the levee yesterday, which was
occasioned by the rise, though there is
plenty of room for improvement.
Capt. D. Z. Brickell, who has been ab
sent in California, reached home last
Friday, having come through froth San .
Francisco to Pittsburgh in six days and
live hours. His numerou s friends will
be glad to learn that he is in good health
and spirits. -
The Glasgow arrived at St. Louis on .
Sunday, and the Bellevernon left there ,
on Saturday for Pittsburgh.
The Importer and Idaßees, arrived at
St. Louis on Saturday from Fort Bnton.
The Wausnits, from St. Louis, i s only
transient arrival we have. to report. She
had a very fair freight list, including,
among other items; the machinery of the
ill-fated Benton, which is , to be placed in
anew boat here. ._
The Argosy departed for Cincinnati ,
with a moderate trip.
The Grey Eagle, Capt. C. L. Brennan,
is the regular packet for Parkersburg to
day, leaving promptly at noon.
The R. C. Grey, Capt. Isaac Whittaker,
is filling up steadily for St. Louis and
the . Upper Mississippi; and will, it is ex
pected, take her departure to-morrow.
The Wananita, Capt. C. A. Dravo, is
also announced for St. Louis and the
Upper MississiPpi.
'The Kate Putnam, Cant. Geo. W. Reed,
is up for Cincinnati and Louisville. The
Putnam is in excellent trim for business,
Capt. Marsh Hays, we understand, is
engaged in the government service in
improving Beaver Shoals.
The Julia departed for Zanesville as
usual. Capt, Stull, is to take command
after she reaches Zanesville. .
—Captain James Ransom has pur
chased Captain Dan. W. Maratta's in
terest, together with Captain John C.
Reno's oneeixteenth interest in the
John H. Groesbeck, at the rate of $23,000
for the entire boat.
—Captain Joseph - Dalfrees, of the
Rose Franks, is cornin to the Ohio for
the purpose of contracting for a new
boat for the Lafourche trade.
—lt is understood- that Captain Tru
man Holmes will command the Dexter
the coming fall in the 'New Orleans and
Vicksburg trade.
—The Lady Gay was sold by Captain
Joseph Brown to Captain J. IL Jones,
W. R. Carter and others, for fig,oo9.
—Referring to the trial, now id pro
gress; of Captain W. B. Donaldson, the .
St. Louis DelltoCo oalsays: The defense
failed to throw discredit upon the testi
mony of the two principal witnesses, or
to seriously embarrass them on the
cross.examination. The testimony thus
far is terribly against the accused, Nit
there is no telling what rebutting evi
dence will be Introduced.

she will tie up for the rest of the season.
