The new Minister to Copenhagen has not yet been appointed. The Bureau is satisfied that the in cipient troubles in Eansis grow out of the hostility of. the old Indian ring to the new Quaker policy being tried in that section, and expects like troubles for a few weeks in other parts of the country occupied by Quakers. There is some talk here in official cir cles about the course which prominent men in England are pursuing in en deavoring to throw upon Napoleon and the French government most of the re sponsibility for 'the policy which. Great Britain adopted and followed in refer ence to the late civil war in the United States, The object seems to be to create a hostile feeling ..among Americans to wardi France, and to divert attention as much as possible from holding England °alone responsible for her course. Tbe administration is somewhat ember , reseed in determining the political status oi •.Georgia, as she was not included in 'themipplemental bill which passed Con gress in the last hours of the session with the States of Virginia, Mississippi and -Texas, and she is also not represented in both branches of Congress. The Presi dent has therefore submitted the question the Attorney General for his opinion. if. he shall decide the State is still out of the Union under the laws of Congress, it is not improbable, the President will assume that Georgia is in the condition of the other unreconstructed States, and recognize her only as under provisional government. 1 notice some papers are giving - cur rency to the statement that notwithstand ing the recent large reduction of the debt, it is nevertheless eleven or twelve lions greater than on the Ist of June, 1868. II , 1 An Ancient Ship. Some - years sine:e; the frame of an an dent German ship, fifteen hundred years old, was dug out of the Nydam turf-moor in Schltswig.Roistein, and is now care fully preserved at Plensbnrg. At is thud described': . , l• - ,i The vessel is made. of oak, very well fashioned; and was found. on the eigh teenth of August, 1863. 'lt is a•slender galley for twenty-eight oars,'seventy-fie feet long, and the „large planks axe _ las- Jetted together wa il.. tron iron nails. It did riot carry a The two ends, fore and aft, are built after the same style, . running to a point, evidently withjegard to the prevention of collision , and to ren der.the landing easier. The vessel is ten feet wide in the centre,`, and also deep, nairow and shallowing towards the ends. Ills made of eleven planks, five on each side, the ground plank and the keel. The lstter is not more than an inch thick, and about eight inches wide in the centre of the boat. The caulking between the planks is effected by means of woollen stuff and a pitchy idiots. The tectinic of this ancient Germanic ship build is much higher than it has been ,customary to assume for that- period and people. Nevertheless the steer ' ing apparatus found near the vessel in the turf.moor has , a very ; primitive cheracter, it being of the oldest - known form, as seen upon the earliest monu ments, and is appended not to the stern of the vessel, but toside. It has a length of nine feet and- four inches. In regard to the movable articles belonging to the ship. dug up at • the same time, there are many of them whose appoint ment and application arc not at all 'clear or doubtful. A few water vessels, among otherthings compare very well with 1 those in use at the present day. It ap pears to be undoubted that the vessel ' was purposely sunken in the primitive period, there being large holes of great age in the planks below thA water line, throught which the water, must have' poured. The Nydan moor 'was- formerly a bay of the sea. The chronology is.defined by a num .l3wierncltfs of ali irotiquni, tilnesoinzaringe anil li sil te v i r i , s, which were dug up near the ship and found in it. By the terms of the lease the former com pany. agrees to pay, the interest on the debt of the latter. and in addition thereto the sum of $1,380,000 per annum as rent for the property. It is understood that under this arrangement the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago Railway Com pany maintains and defends all its own litigations. The Pennsylvanin Company assumes none of them. -The capital of the Fort Wayne Company is $11,500,000-- consequently the sum of $1,380,000 mimed as the annual rent, is 12 per cent. on the capital. Its funded debt at the close of last year was $12,563,000, and by a resolution of the Board in March last was increased by a half million of 8 per cent. "equipment bonds." The Pitts burgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago Com pany are a re-organization and consoli dation of three original companies, whose lines conjointly connected Pittsburgh and Chicago: ' It became involved in debt, and in 1861 was sold under foreclosure, the present company becoming the pur chasers in 1862. The main line of road has a total length of 468 miles, with 33i miles of second track and 96f bides of sidings, giving a total of single track of 598 miles. The gross::.earnings in .1868 were $8,041,180, an in. creasn on those of . the previous year of $796,054.: The - increase has been steady each successive year for the last six years. The eXpenses in transact ing-the business of last year were' 115,- 009,110, or about 62f ,per Cent. of the earnings. The companynow pays guar terly, dividends, of 2f per cent., or 10 per cent. per annum. It holds ansl. Works three branch roads, The "Akron Branch" what was originally the Cleve land, Zanesville and Cincinnati Railroad, is 61 miles in length, and extends, from Hudson to Millersburg, Ohio, and crosses the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne and Chiedgo . Railway at Orville, 124 miles from Pitts burgh. It cost at judicial sale $179,329 over and above a--7 per cent. mortgage of $200,000 which mortgage has been reduced to-$153,000. It pays little over' expenses and interest. The "NeW Cas tle Branch" consists of a road extending from Homewood to New Cede and a connecting road of 16 miles with the . Erie and Pittsburgh Railroad, both oper ated under a ninety-nine years' lease, at an annual rent charge of 40 per cent. of gross earnings. The Lawrence Road to Youngstown. and its branch is operated udder a similar lease. The business of these branch roads Is inconsiderable. With little resulting profit. The Fort Wayne Company haa now rented that portion of its railroad between -Pittsburgh and Rochester to the Cleveland and Pitts burgh Company at $85,000 per annum. The entire cost of the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago Railway is put down in its last report at $26,887, 076, since in creased by a' half Million of, 8 per cent. bonds.
