SATURDAY, June 5, 1869.
The upward' tendency of gold devel
oped early on Saturday, has likewise
imparted* firmer feeling in the Govern
ment bond market and the advance
was quite marked. Heavy purchases
of bonds weremade again for the par-
pose of shipirient to Europe, since the
rates of exchange have been put up by
the foreign priine bankers. The invest-
ment demandi however is very-light,
and any material decline shows' more
disposition to sell. Towards the close of
the day, however, the market reacted
and gold likewise dropped back to
attain
QI33X, which shows that our re
marks about t the real condition of the
market and its tendency.were correct.
There is scarcely any doubt but that
gold will command much higher prices
this season and shortly, but lower, rates
may ensue during the next few days, as
soon as cheaper gold is sold out again by
the operators for a Short torn. ..
Stocks seen to balirmer in the gener
al tendency, although some of the west
ern roads look weak. There is evidently
no strong element in the market at pres
ent to sustainhigh prices and the most
cautious are ;more disposed to sell and
alize, than prop , the market.
Money is easy, but • business is stag

Money easier with a liberal supply at
7 per cent. oicall, with oxceptions at 6
per cent. The unfavorble bank atatement
had a depressing influence, however, on
the Stook Eichange. The loss in deposits
and legal tenders accounts fisr the activity
in the morning and during the week,
and reflects ;hoary receipts of currency
by the Treasury from income tax sad
sales of gold in excess of bonds. There
