REMIT DAT, Secretary. `PLAN OF FIZUNION OF THE PRESBYTERIAN cuuncn IN THE UNITZD STATES OF AMERICA. Believing that the interest of the Re deemer's.kingdom would be promoted by the healing of our divisions, and that the two lx:odies bearing the same name, hay the lame Constitution, and each recog nizing the other as a sound and orthodox bcidy , according to the principles of the confession common to both, cannot be, Justified by any but the most imperative reasons in maintaining separate .and, in some respects, rival organizations; we are now clearly of the opinion that the reunion of those bodies ought, as soon as the neces sary steps can be taken, to be accom plished, upon the basis hereinafter set forth : 1. The Presbyterian Churches in the United States of America, namely, that whose General Assembly convened in the Brick Church in the City of New York, on the 20th day of May, 1869, and that whose General Assembly met in the Church of the Covenant in the said City, on the same diy, shall be reunited as one Church, under the name and style of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America, possessing all the legal and corporate rights and powers pertaining to the Ckurch previous to the division in 1838, and all the legal and corporate rights and powers which the separate Churches now possess. 2. 'The reunion shall be effected n the doctrinal and ecclesiastical basis ci:L f our common standards ; the Scriptures f the Old and New Testaments shall . ac knowledged to be the inspired w d of •God, and the only infallible role of faith and practice; the Confession of Faith shall continue to be sincerely re iv i ed and adopted as containing the syst bf doctrine taught in the Holy Scriptures, And the government and discipline of the . Each of the said Assemblies submit'the foregoing basis to its Pi teries, which shall be required to mi or before the 15th day of October, to express their approval or disapi of the same, by a categorical answ the following question: Do you approve of the reunion of the two bodies now claiming the nama and rights of the Presbyterian Church ip the United States of America, on the follow ingi basis, namely: "The reunion shall be eected on the doctrinal and ecclesias tical asis of our common Standards; the Seri; urea of the Old and New Testaments 11 ) ..shall acknowedged to be the inspired word of God, and the only infalible rule ' •of f th a ltsa and practice; the Confeesion of Filth shall continue to be sincerely received * and adopted as containing' the syste of doctrine taught in the Holy ~. CONCURRENT DECLARATIONS OF TEE GEN ERAL ASSEMBLIES OF 1869. As there are matters pertaining to. the interests of the Church when it shall have become reunited, which will manifestly require adjustment on the coming together of two bodies which have so long acted separately, and concerning some of which matters it is highly desiralfie that there should be a previous good understanding, the two'Asseniblies agree to adopt the fol lowing' declarations, • not as articles of compactor covenant, but as in their judg ment proper and,:equitable arrangements, to wit: 1. All the ministers and churches em braced in the trio bodies should be ad-- mitted to the same standing in the united, body, which they may have held in their' respective connection up to the consum mation of the union. 2. Imperfectly organized churches -- are counselled and expected to become thoroughly Presbyterian as early within the period of five years as may be per mitted by the highest interests to be con sulted, and no other such churches shall be hereafter received. 3. .The boundaries of the several Pres byteries and Synods should be adjusted by the General Assembly of the united Church. - 4. The official records of the two branches of the Church for the period of separation should be preserved and held as making 'up the one history of the Church; and no rule or precedent which does not stand approved by both the bodies, ,should be of any authority until re-established in the united body, except in sgfar as such rule or precedent may effect the rights of property founded thereon. 5. The - corporate rights new held, by the two General Assemblies, and by their Boards and Committees, should, as far as practicable, be consolidated, and ap plied for their several objects as defined by law. 6. There should be one set of Commit tees or Boards for Home and Foreign Missions and the other religions enter prises of the Church; which the churches should be encouraged , to sustain, thotigh free to cast their contributions into other channels if they desircto do so. 7. As soon as practrcable after the union shall have been effected, the Gen eral Assembly- should reconstruct and consolidate the several Permanent Com mittees and Boards•which now belong to the two Assemblies, so as to represent, as far as possible with impartiality, the views and wishes' of the two bodies con stituting the united Church. r 8. The publications of the Board of Publication and ofl the Publication Com mittee should continue to be issued as at present, leavingtit to the Board of Publi cation of the united Church to revile these issues and perfect a catalogue for the united Church so as to exclude Invidious references to, past controversies. 9. In order to a uniform system of ecclesiastical super vision, those theological seminaries that are now under Assembly control may, if their Boards ot Direction so elect, be transferred to the watch and care of one or more of the adjacent Synods; and the other seminaries are ad vised to introduce, as far as may be, into their constitutions, the principle of Synod ical or Assembly supervision; in which case they shall be entitled to an official re cognition and approbation on the part of the General Assembly. 10: It should be regarded as the duty of our judicatories, ministers and people in the united Church, to study the things which' make for peace, and to guard against all needless' and offensive refer ences to the causes that have divided us; and in order to avoid the revival of past issues by the continuance of any usage in either branch of the Church, that has grown out of former conflicts, it is earn ' esti) , recommended to the lower judica tories of the Church that they conform their practice in relation to all such usages, as far as is consistent with their convic tions of duty, to the general custom of. the Church prior to the controversies that resulted In the separation. RECOMMFISDATION OF A DAY OF PRAYER. ' That the counsels of Infinite Wisdom may guide our decisions ' and the blessing of the Great Head of the Church rest upon the result of our efforts for reunion, it is earnestly recommended to the church es throughout both brunches of the Pres byterian Church, that they observe the second Sabbath in September, 1869, as a day of fervent and- united prayer to Al mighty God, that he would grant unto us all "the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord," and in the new relations now contemplated, enable us to "keep the unity of the Spirit in the bonds of peace." The Philadelphia Press says: Under this new consolidation the Presbyterian Church of the United States will embrace in its bounds some ' three millions of souls', or nearly one.twelfth of the popu lation of the whole country. They are all three to be taken at the same time. They cleanse, the stomach, re , lat tee livor and - Ma it,to work; then the appetite becomes good; the food digests and makes good blood; the patient begins to grow In flesh; the diseased matter ripens into the lungs, and the patient outgrows tee disease and gets well. This is the only way to cureconsumption. To these three medicines Dr. J. H. Saienck, of Philadelphia, owes his unrivaled success in the treatment of Pulmonary Consumption. The Pul monlc Syrup ripens the morbid matter in the lungs, nature throws it off by au ea.y expectora tion, for when the phlegm or matter Is ripe a, slight cough will throw It of. and the patient has T rest and the lungs begin to e do, this, tile Seaweed ionic and Mandrake Pills runs: be freely used to cleanse the - stomach and liver, so that the Pulmonlc Syrup and the food will makegood blood. Schenck's Mandrake Pills act; upon the liver, removing all obstructions. relax the uucts of the i g s a so l o b n d r d leiry eh t b h i e e st o ols wieelyh and w h at i t v he r Pills can do; nothing has ever been Invented ex cept calomel (a deadly po'son wcich Is very dan gerous to use uness with great care,) that will unlock the gall bladder and start the secretions of Liv e r ver like Scheock'd Mandrake Pills. Complaint is one of tie most prominent causes , of Consumption. Schenck 's Seaweed Ton alka l i ntte idicuulant and alterative. and the i n the Seaweed, , which this preparation ls blade ot, assists the stomach to turow out the gastric juice to dissolve - the rood with the Pulmonlc Syrup, and It is made into go od b cod without fermentation or souring In the stomach. the great reason why physiclars do not cure Consumption is. they try to do too much; they give medicine to stop the cough, to stop chills,to stop night sweats, hectic fever. and by so doing tney derange the whole digestive powers. lock.- Ing Up the secretons, and eventually the patient sinks and dies. Dr. Schenck nig h tis treatment, does not try to stop a coughsweats, chills or fever. Re move the cause; and tney will all stop of their own accord. No one can be cured of.Consump -tion, Liver Complaint, Dyspepsia. Catarrh, Canker, Ulcerated Throat, unless tne liver and stomach are made healthy. Ir a person has consumption, of course the lungs In .some way are diseased, eitner tubercles, abcesses, bronchial irritation, pleura adhesion, or the lungs are a mass of inflammation and fast decaying. In such cases what mist be done? It is not only the lungs that are wasting, but it -Is the whole body. "the stomach and liver have lost their power to make blood out of fo .d. Now the only chance Is to take lirr Schenck's three medi cines, which will bring up a tons to the stomach the patient will begin to want food. It willdigest easily and make good blood; then the riatlentrie.- gins to gain in flesh. and as soon as the body be gins ta-ferow, the lungs con mence to heal up, and the patient gets th shy and well. This Is theonly way to cure Consumption. When there is no long disease and only Ltviir Complaint and Dyspepsia,- Schenclvir Seaweed Tonic and Blandrake Pills are sufficient, 'without the Pulmonlc Syrup. Take the Mandrake Pills freely In LI billions complaints, as they are per fectly harmless. Dr. Schenck, who has enjoyed uninterrupted health fur many years past, and now weighs 228 pounds. was wasted away to a mere skeleton, in the very last stage of Pulmonary Consumptiolf, hi. physicians having , pronounced his case hope less and abandoned hpm CO his late.
