As business wag pretty generally sus pended to-day, we omit our usual daily report of the markets, the-great major ity of the business houses being closed: The markets generally are very dulland heavy, the demaud for all of the leading articles being confined entirely to supply ing inimediate wants, and, as a general. thing, prim are still tending downward. It is thought by some dealers that Flour may possibly advance slightly between this and harvest, but of this there is no certainty, and the Indications at present do not warrant any such prediction. The demand for Grain is very light and not withstanding there is no accumulation of stock, the market is exceedingly dull. and Rye and Oats have declined. Gro ceries are also dull, but Sugars are held with a good deal of confidence, in view ofd heavy fruit crop. Provisions quiet and unchanged. Butter, to use a com mon phrase, has got a "black eye," hav ing declinedfully fifteen cents per pound during the week; and prime Roll cannot be 'quoted above 20 cents. Other arti— cles are dull and unchanged. - It is generally expected that business will be dull during the next two ,months or until after harvest. This is'usually the case at this particular season and we see no reason why this year should be. an exception. PETROLEUM MARKET, OFFICE OF PITTSBURGH GAZETTE, , SATURDAY, May 29, 1869. V REVIEW FOR THE WEEK. The oil market has been quite active during the week which has just closed, the volume of business both here and in the east having been unusually large. The most Important and noticeable fea ture we have to notice is the material decline in prices; while nearly every body expected that there would be a de cline, yet it was more rapid than even the most sanguine expected. Another important and encouraging event is, the fact that additional refineries have re sumed operations, and it is probable that the majority of all the prominent manufacturing establishments are now in full blast. It is true, the margin for the manufacttirers is yet rather light, but it is generally belleved. that there will be ' an improvement in this respect as the season advances. The receipts of Crude by the Allegheny Railroad to-day ex ceeded six thousand dollars. Receipts of. Crude this week, 7,232 bbls; last week, 9,323; from January Ist to date, 259,026; samo time last year, 504,051. As will be seen above; the receipts of Crude thus far this year show a falling off of 245,025 bbls, com pared with the same time last year. The sales this week foot up 95;700 bbliagainst. 71,100 last week. It is but proper to re mark, however, that there was a good deal of oil sold of which no report was Made, probably 25,000 bbls sold “short''' by Eastern operators to Pittsburgh buy ers.
