RIVER NEWS.
The river_has been stationary since
Saturday; at noon, with six feet six. inches
in the channel by Monongahela marks.
We had one of the most violent thun
der and rain storms of the season on
Saturday night. The lightning,vms ex
ceedingly Sharp and for an honr or more
the rain fell in torrents.
The Bellevernon, from - St. Paul, ar
rived yesterday forenoon and the Lore
na, from bt. Louis, was expected in last
evening. The Bellevernon encountered
a very heavy storm, near Steubenville,
and she was obliged to lay up until it
abated.
The Grey Eagle arrived and departed
for Parkersburg. She was considerably
behind time, having been delayed doubt
less by the weather.
_ The New State arrived from Wheeling
and will depart again to-day at noon.
The Glendale, Capt. Hare, will posi
tively take her departure for St. Louis
today and passengers and shippers
should bear this in mind;
Business was entirely suspended at
the le'Vee on Saturday, and ihdeed this
was pretty much the case throughout
the entire city. •
The Kate Putnam, Capt. G. W. Reed,
is announced for Cincinnati m d Louis
ville forthwith, and she is th ey only boat
loading for these points.
The new steamer Matamoras No. 2,
Capt. Daizell, is announced to lake her
departure for New Orleans to-morrow.
The Armadillo, Capt. M'Carty, is load
ing for. St. Louis and St. Paul.
The Leonidas was expected to arrive
at Cincinnati on Friday ' and the New
York left there the same day for Nash
ville. •
- The Camelia, Nashville to Pittsburgh,
passed Evansville on Friday and the
towboat Simpson Horner arrived at New
Orleans the same day.
—The Argosy left Cincinnati for Pitts
burgh on Thursday.
—All suits brought against insurance
companies of Cincinnati by Marshall it
Kilpatrick of St. Louis, for insurance on
the steamer Magnolia, were settled last
Friday, the compromise being for about
one-half the amount of the claims.
—The Mollie Able was attached at St.
Louis on Thursday, by Alex Crozier and
Ernest Wurpel,.for a debt of $1,246
machinery unpaid for.
—A. Louisville dispatch of Thursday,
says: The Local Inspectors of this port,
in the case of the collision of the Quick
step and Allice Sullivan at Dymond Isl
and, Ohio river; on the night of April 10,
1869 t by which: the latter was sunk and
three lives lost, decided to-day that the
collision was caused by W. F. At'Clain,
pilot of the Quickstep, changing or cross
ing signals, and suspended his license
for ninety days.
—The Messenger, Pittsburgh to St.
Paul, passed Dubuque on the 26th.
—lt is said that the Dexter will enter
the New Orleans and Greenville trade,
in command of-Capt. W. B. Richardson.
—Captain Isaac Bryson has gone to
Paducah to take charge of the hulls of
the two now boats, for the Keokuk Pack
et Company. He will take them to St.
Louis: •
—The Memphis Appeal predicts that
the day is near •at hand when river
towns will not only learn that they have
no right to tax steamers for landing, but
will be comnelled:to refund, they
have already collected.
—The 'Stonewall was caught in a
storm Monday night. MX 'miles below
Brunswick, life., and her chimneys tex
as and part of her cabin were blown Mr.
No lives were lost. She was bound for
Omaha. Ilek pateiengets Were transfer
red to the Walter B. Banda,- a steamer
bound up the river. - The ' , damage will
probably amount to three or four thous
and dollars, which is covered by insur
ance, if it amounts to the necestaary five

Lon. Bryson, of Cincinnati,Ohio well
known among river men, especially on
the. Ohio river, arrived here on Sunday,
per Key City. He first visited St. Paul
in 1867, at which time he was one of the
clerks on the Frank Steel. He thinks
some of going into business here, as ev
ery thing is unit on the Ohio.
