PETROLEUM MARKET.
OFFICE OF FITTE;BUROEI GAM:MYTH,.
. FRIDAY, May 28, 1869. S.
The market was unusually quiet to
day, the sales being comparatively in
significant while compared, with, yester
day, prices are without important
change. It is reported, and we have
good reason to believe that it is true,
that the sales yesterday were Much./a$
ger than those we had reported; #t is
said that New York and Philadelphia
sold some fifty thousand barrels, about
one half of which was bought,, by Pitts
burgh. What the object was in suppres
sing the sales, we cannot say; ,possibly it
was apprehended that it might have a
bad influence on the market, and that
the interests of the parties concerned
would be better subserved by.keeping it
as quiet as possible. Be this as it may,
it was a pretty big day's work, and as.
the sellers were eastern !operators, it is
safe to infer that they sold "short.".
cRIIDE.
There were but two sales reported,
3,000 bbls seller until 20th June, (40 to
46) at 13; and 1,000 spot,'(4o to 45) at 13.
As a general ;thing, there were bat very
few buyers at 13, and quotations may be
fairly given at 12% offered and 13 asked.
There was a sale reported at t 4,90, on.
board cars at Venango City.
REFINED.
Also was unusually quiet and but three
sales re ..rted; 500 and 1,000 May, at 30;
and 1,111 July, at 30X.• All year,,buyer.
offered at . 3.1%; 'July to December, at
313;, and June, at 30. The shipments of
Refined this week will foot up larger
than for any preceding week this year,
and it is probable that next week will
go - ahead of this one.
