PETROLEUM MARKET.
Orrioz OP PITTSBURGH GAZETTE,
THURSDAY, May 15,, 1869.
The oil trade, compared with yester
day,' has undergone but little change one
way or the other. There is still some in
,
quiry for both Crude and Refined, but
the sales are mainly to cover old con
tracts, and very frequently one lot of oil
wipes out quite a number of these. Our
refiners, as a general thing, are doing
nothing, but hopes are entertained that
the market will soon be in shape to ad
mit of a real and permanent resumption ,
of business; that the prices of both crude
and refined, will be more properly bitl
armed, and that the cost of transporta-i
tion will be so adjusted as to enable
Pittsburgh to far* , and successfully
compete with other points. This all the
trade asks, no less and no more, and
they ere certainly entitled to it.
ORIIDE—The market for Crude is in
an unsettled and unsatisfactory condi
tion, as buyers and sellers generally ,
cannot get together. Refiners seem dis
posed to hold Off lo anticipation of a still
further decline, and the only buyers
just now are the shorts, whoso contracts
are about maturing, and they are
obliged to bay in order to cover. Sale
of 1,000 bbls .(40 to 45) seller 30 days,
at 14; I,ofo May (40 to 45) at 14;1200 was
paid for the privilege of delivering 2,000
bbls, any time this year, at 13. Private
telegrams from 011 City report offers to
sell at 0,25, ori cars, there, which is con
sidered equivalent to 13X, delivered
here.
REFINED—Is dull and a little weak,
though compared with yesterday, prices
aie without quotable change. Sale 500
bbls May, last half, at 32y,; 500 each,
June, July and August. at 33: and 1,000
buyer, all year, at 35M. June is a frac
tion lower, being quoted at 32 for first
and 3234 for last half.
