ALLEmklitY CA'llrLE MARKET.

OFIPIOE 07 Prrrastritas Gezzrrs,
MoNDAT. May 10, 1869.
CATTLE-4here was a fair supply, of
Cattle on sale to-day, 750 head, and with
some five car loads taken' by foreign buy
ers, the nurnbtr was conaiderably re-.
fin ced s 'and notwithstanding prices ruled
fully 'as high as last week, the market
did not appear at all satisfactory to dro
vers. They alleged that they had to pay
an advance of from a quarter to half a
cent per pound in Chicago, last week,
and that'll' order to make anything they
should have realized the same advance
here. We do not think, however, that
there was any money lost, but, on the
contrary, that most if not all of the regu
lar dealers made a littlei money. 'They
are always growling and contplaining
about the hard times, great difficulty in
getting money, but they still stick to the
business, and, appear to get along as
well in this world as their fellow men.

increased number of Sheets on sale to

sheep sold at from 6@6M, but very few
at the outside quotation; and fair to good
at 5®535. Lambs sold at 12,50@3 per

ping as possible.

HOGs—The Hog market continues
dull, and is likely to continue so all
summer, as fresh pork is not very popu
lar in our markets, in hot weather'. We
quote in a'retail way, at 10©11 eta gross,
for good to prirrie heavy averages.
Jacob Needy wholesaled a small

rta morning Schiller, the ex-reporter, ar
rived here from the sunny south with. It
to . sale. VBO,OOO in his pocket. He in.
vested it in farms, On one of which,.
about six miles west of this city, he was
living last winter. We believe that Jo.
Shannon wanted some of the money that
Schiller brought here with him, but we
have never learned whether he got it or
not:, We have always considered the
case of this little German, Ed. Schiller,
a most rorarkable one. There Is some
thing est unding in a reporter getting to
be worth, eighty or a hundred thousand
dollars. / But ft should be borne in mind
that New Orleans was the paradise of
river reporters, as witness the wealth of
Pat. Higgins, of the Times, of Pagard, of
the Picayune,. and of him who until
about a 3 , ear ago, presided in the river
