FINANCE' AND TRADE,
OFFICE PEriSBURGH _GAZETTE,
THURSDAY, April 29, 1869.
The' greater ease in money matters in
eastern cities has 'a favorable influence
on our , home money market. -
; The L sharp advance in Government
induced manflolders to sell out,
the more so since the tendency of gold
Is not yet downward, which was expect
ed, in case of any materiai rise in bonds;
The - ease in the money market gives
parties of a speculative tarn and the
leaders of Wall street, almost full con
trol of the bond market. The amount
on the market being limited, they may,
advance them to almost any price, but
unless gOWitiould sell much below
present figures European capitalists will,
no longer buy at present prices; /ower
_ohotations may be made by interested
parties, and a sudden decline is inevita
ble. , The advance in bondi is used
simply to advance prices in stocks to a
very high figure before the stunmer
season sets in.
I Gold which looked very dull yester
day, suddenly, advanced' to. day' to 134 M,
more on account of the oversold condi
tion,
of the market than from any other
cause, except the scarcity for delivery.
The Government sales were not looked
upon as in any way relieving the market.
Stocks, although not higher, were held
firm,- out the market is kept.up by with
drawing stocks for the Present in order
tol force speculators .to Puy at higher
qttotations. ;'The Stagnation of business
will greatly assist the speculative mania
inlstocks. - . .
I Money is still from tent to 'twelve per
cent, except for first class paper, which
is taken at eight to . nine per , cent.
,
banks.
