Trtbone correspondent, writing from Montreal, says: The desire of the people of the New Dominion to out loose from their de pendent*, upon the mother country, has received a powerful impetus from one or two recent events, and whatever course may finally .be adopted, there can be little doubt that a great iolitical change of some sort is not far distant. Several private meetings of influential persona have recently been held herefor the purpose of considering the great ques tion of a change in the form of govern ment, and general dissatisfaction with the present state of things, is more and more openly expressed. The newapaperii are at last beginning to meet the ques tion face to face, and are giving utter ance to the sentiment which has long been widely dispersed among the people, although few have bad the courage to express publicly in favor of indepen dence, but the larger party aims at an nexation to the United States, and will soon make itself prominent. The acqui sition of the Hudson Bay territory has given additional force to the arguments of the annexationis ta. It is felt that such a magnificent domain as the new domin ion now promises to be, ought no longer to be dwarfed and kept down by dependence on a trans-Atlantic. Government. The proposal that Great Britain shall surren der her North American possessions as a set off against the Alabama claims, has created a deep sensation in certain cir cles. Not a few regard it witn decided favor. —At st. Louis, Wednesday morning, while the rubbish - of an old building was being- hauled away, the flooring upon which a team and wagon were standing gave way, and the wagon and three men were precipitated into the cellar beneath. The falling floor brought down a portion of the standing wall, which fell on and burled the men. One man, named Michael Delaney, was killed. Another, name not learned, was badly cut about the face and heard, and had a rib or two broken, and the third escaped with but a few scratches. • nogliMiNeee.lNNlNl OIIPICZ OF THE Tee/MINIM OF ALLICOOKIIT Comm', Pittsburgh, April Ist, 1609.
