The' Recent Aurora.
The recent appearance of the Aurora
Borealis has attracted so much attention
that a copular view of the phenomenon
in its scientific aspect, may be interest.

The Aurora Borealis is so called from
the fact that its appearance is more fro.
qnent, more vivid and more lasting, as
we approach the pole. indeed, it occurs
at the southern pole as well as the north
ern, and it is surmised that the appear
ance is simultaneous. at each; but though
it has been seen in the United States, on
the Southern horizon, its usual presence
in the North justifies the popular name.

twelve times a year; in the Canadas, far

Zone, there are few nights in which it is
