FINANCE AND MUE,
OFF/CE OF PITTBIII7II,GII etAZIETIM,
MONDAY, April 121 1869. S
The gold market opened at a -decline
of one-fourth per cent. from Saturday's
closing-quotations, and graduall,r de
clined-to 132%, from which point it ad
vanced to mk t closing quiet. The high
loaning rate caused many parties to pre
sent their May coupons for exchange
into gold, and submit to the rebate. After
the middle of the 'month it is expected
that gold will be plenty, and rates will
decline. •
Gnvernment bonds opened with more
activity, but the market relapsed, and a
general decline of about one-fourth . en
sued except for 1862'5, and old 1865's
which advanced about one per cent. on
rumor of a corner in either of them. The
•
report however, proved incorrect. The
general disposition regarding govern
ment bonds is for lower iluotationi, and
the large offerings from the interior are
likely to keep the market fully supplied.
_
Stocks strong and more active. Fort
Wayne advanced to 132 ex-dividend.
Money still very high: best collaterals
will command ten per cent.
Business, more activity displayed.

OFFICE OF PITTSBURGH GAZETTE,
MoNDAY, April 12, 1869.
The oil market was exceedingly quiet
today, but a single operation reported,
but with a pretty strong feeling, appa
rently, prices are fully sustained, and
there was no disposition manifested to
make concessions in order to effect'sales.
The time and attention of the trade gen
erally is too much absorbed inarranging
for deliveries, to give muck attention to
new business, though, as was the case
last week, buyers and sellers, for some
reason or other, cannot get together. The
great proportion of the oil arriving is be
ing put in on sellers options, all the year,
and, as a consequence, some parties are
getting more oil than they-expected or
desired at this particular time. It may
seem strange yet is nevertheless true, as
it has been fully demonstrated within
the past week, that 500 barrels of oil will
sometimes satisfy contracts of 5,000 bar
rels, and we heard of 1,000 bbls to-day,
which filled contracts to the amount of
20,C00 bbls; as it cancelled nineteen eon
tratsOf one thousand barrels each!
CRUDE—There was but a singletrans
action reported, 500 bbls, on spot, at 15.
Sellers option to July may be quoted at
153 @1534, and May and June, that is
for a specified amount each month,
would probably, command 16. July to
December, for 500 or 1,000 each month,
may be quoted nominally at 17.
REFIIrED—The Refined market is
although quiet is very firm, and while
there was not a single , sale, reported,
prices, compared with Saturday, are
fully sustained. -Sp6t oil. quoted at' 32;

ALLEGHENY CATTLE MARKET.
OrPlOZOlPPrrrsuußori Woorryz,
. MONDAY. April 12, 1869. a§
The supply on sale .to-day, footed up
about 750 head, but with an unusually
brisk demand on the part of butchers,
the market was active and very stiff, and
drovers experienced no difficulty in sel
ling, and that, too, at full prices. There
was also 'some little inquiry for ship
ment, although there was not much show
for shippers as the supply was just about
large enough, for the retail trade, and by
ten o'clock A. M. the butchers had bought
nearly everything in market. The qual
ity of the Cattle on sale, taking the num
ber into consideration, was about up to
,
the usual standard, and those butchers
desiring good cattle experienced no diffi
catty in obtaining them.
Prices, compared with last week, have
undergone no quotable change; though
the feeling was very stiff, and It is possi
ble that the commoner and - medium

NEW Yom z. April 12.—The market is
lacking in buoyancy as well , as in Activi

holdera are disposed to take hold of low
pieced geode with more alacrity. The
most Important change noticeable today
is the fall in Warn_Sutta . bleached rims-
Una to 22X0:. the Max Well do;*do., are
down to 20c, Keareage t0;164c, and Hope
is selling as low as 14c. There has been
no great difference in theprices of Tusca
rora and Wanosutta during the last week,
but this is now`obviated by the above re
duction in the price of the latter. New
York Mills - muslina , mist follow - Pram-
Bunn and go to 28c, ifs it takes a month to
do it. Ginghairis are still relatively boo
high. and we look for a decline in them

unprofitable rates, and as a matter of
course cannot _descend, any loWer.
