The re ports about the return shipments of four millions of specie from London are all • discredited, and only one million of small coin is shipped, likely five dollar pieces that 'were thrown out by, the bankers for insufficient weight. The market although quiet, continues strong, with considerable inquiry, and but few sellers, even at present quota , tions. Operators generally seem uneasy and distrtistful, and disposed to hold back to see what will turn up. They are timid about selling, being apprehensive that .prices may go still higher, and afraid to buy lest there may be a decline. As, already noted, however, the Market at the present time is firm, and some are confident of ~still better prices while others are doubtful, .contending that there is no - real 'or 'substantial cause to warrant any such, predietion e , and. that the chances for a decline or,equally as good as those for an advance. There is a great diversity of opinion and feeling among operators in regard to the future course of the market, and this tends very much towards. restricting business and retarding operations. . CRUDE—There are no new character istics in the Crude market worthy, of special notice; the feeling appears to be strong and prices fully sustained, though the 'demand does not appear, at all -ur gent. The metal market continues very qui et, the' volume Ad' business being com paratively light, and while the demand is limifed the -receipts continue meagre, and there, is no accumnlationOf stock, Eastern irons are reported as command ing relatively better piices• in the east em markets, while Hanging Rocks irons are going to Cincinnati and othep.points - for the same reason. The great propor tion of the western irons arriving are being put in onlormer contracts, so that, notwithstanding the demand here is light, there is no accumuiation of stock, and prices as a general thing are pretty well sustained. In regard to bar iron and nails, the re ports, we regret to say, are less favorable than a- week or two ago, as .the orders • ,i - from nearly 11 quarters are falling off, • and the prosp cts for the futtwe are :Aet as flattering a month since.
