    PITTSITRGII I METAL MARKET.
ChorD7u OF PITTSBURGH GAZETTE,
_ • - FRIDAY; March 26, MtiV.
The market has b e ep unusually quiet
this week, the sales the aggregate be
ing unusually small, some of the com.
mission houses reporting that they had
absolutely done nothing at all worthy of
notice. The demand, with the excep
tion of one or two particular kinds, of
which there is little or none in market,
is very light; but with only moderate re
ceipts and. iv . .) unusal accumulation of
stock, prices, as a general thing, are
pretty well, sustained. As we noticed
last week, the great proportion of the
western iron arriving is being put in On
former contracts, so that the quantity
really on the market for sale is not es
large as might be supposed.

—The Evansville Journal of Tuesday,
says: B. B. Taylor, of , Madison. an old
steamboat clerk, was a Imasenger by the
Richmond, on Sunday. He went. South
to seek health, but instead of improving
hails, we regret to say, rather proved
worse. He was unable, on Sunday to
rise from his couch. Ben has a noble
heart, and we are pained to see his
health so shattered.
—A Louisville special to the Cinncin
nati Commercica, says: The proposed
dam of Gen. Weitzel across the head of
the head of the falls excites serious op
position' in all quarters.: The Pittsburgh
coal-boat pilots, and Captaics and ow'-
era declare it a vital blockade of the
river; that it will be impossible for boats
to ascend the falls at any stage of water.
The dank and bridge completed being
impassable barriers, the city authorities
are being aroused, and citizens who
have use for wharf space declare that
the harbor will inevitably fill up by con
structing the data,, and the boatmen all
concur in the belief that the canal will
be the only outlet for boats, as it mates
the canal a dire necessity, or else Louis
ville is the head and foot of steamboat
navigation.
