- To-day the Coriferenci3 has done mach
business. The following were received
on trial, into the traveling connection :
Silas T. Mitchell, M. L. Steffy, Thomas
W. Anderson, Merriman C. Harris, Ben
jamin F. Beazell, R. Keys, J. W. McEn
tire, Christian H. Feitt, Charles W. Mil
ler, Harris H: Hogan, Joseph W. Miles,
Milton M. Sweeney, D. Dudley, William
D. Sletse, James H. Mann.
The Board of Stewards report 88,413.33
received this year for the worn out
Preachers, and the widows and orphans
of Preaohers. This is a grand sum—in
excess of any former year. In taking
care of our beneficence no Conference ex
celled mu; none, I think, equals us. Of
this we may be justly proud.
Several Committees have reported and
their reports hive been adopted.
This evening -the Anniversary of the
Church Extension 'Society is being held.
Bev. Gray, Of Chicago, who is to
take charge of Christ Church, in your
city, provided he can get a transfer,
makes one of the addresses, and Dr.
Dempsey the other. .
MONDAY, March 22.
Yesterday was Et high day. It was
clear and bright; and the people enjoyed
it and its privileges very much. All the
chuzches were crowded and their pulpits
filled by ministers from the Conference.
The Methodist Church was, of course,
the place of greatest attraction. A Con
ference love feast was held at 8;4 o'clock
A. M., at which there were many wit
nesses for Jeans. Old menand young and
Women told their religions experience.
God was present and blessed his people.
At 10j4 o'clock
. 131 shop Ames preached a
thoughtful, appropriate and earnest ser-
Mon, afttz which the deacons were Or
dained. At 3 o'clock Dr. Drummond
preached and all the - elders were ordain
ed. In the evening Rev. McMullen, of
Indiana, delivered a sermon that set
everything on fire. He is a wonderful
man, wonderful as to voice, manner and
power. He closed with a shout and
the whole audience seemed to catch the
enthusiasm. There was intense feeling.
Songs of 'praise were sung in which•the
vast multitudepresent joined, and I may
hear better singing this side of Heaven,
but I doubt it very much.
The Conference will closeto.day.
Amicus.
Place of Next Conference—Reports and
Resolutions—Thanks--The Town and
People.
NEW PHILADELPHIA, OHIO.
- March 22, 1869.
The hour% prayer meeting has just
closed. It was one of great interest. Dr.
Pershing is reading the minutes of Sat
urday's proceedings. •
Johnidown, Brownsville, Pennsylvania
avenue, Pittsburgh, Kramer Chapel,
Steubenville, Salem, Alliance, Brighton,
Kittanning, asked for the next session of
our Conference, and Johnstown -was se
lected:
The Conference resolved to raiselll,ooo
for its claimants the coming year.
The Bishops are requested to fix the
time of holding the sessions of our Con
ference in the latter pait of April. •
A resolution putted that the preachers
be careful to see that a fair' and full vote
on the question of Lay Delegation be
taken in June, as ordered by the last
General Conference.
In the report of the . Committee' on
Temperance a resolution was reported
and adopted to the effect that a member
of our Church who signs a petition for 11-
cease to sell intoxicating drinks, violates
the spirit of the Discipline, and ought to
be admonished of the error of his way by
his pastor.
At two o'clock H. Conference met
for its closing session.
.The report on the State of the Church
'has a resolution in it, which wasadopted,
disapproving of all church fairs and fes
tivals, and condemning dancing and the
atre-goirig.
• The assets of the Pittsburgh Christian
Advocate exceed its liabilities by .12,000,
and it has a circulation of 18,000 copies.
Its editors received the commendation
of the Conference for the able and effi
cient manner in which they perform
their duties.
A - series of resolutions of thanks were
passed by a unanimous and very hearty
vote, to the citizens of New Philadel
phia, for the generous manner in which
they entertained the' members of the
Conference. This was most certainly
their due, for a cleverer set of people
than these Philadelphians it has not been
our fortune to meet. They know how
to do the right thing by their guests.
Their town is rapidly improving and
bids fairly to be a city shortly. The
church in which the Conference held its
sessions isa new building, large, well
finished and furnished, has a tower and
steeple, and a sweet-toned bell, from the
foundry of Mr. Fulton, of your city. It
is by far the best church in the place.
Two things specially worthy of note
respecting the Conference are these: the
religious tone of all its proceedings and
the great number of people in constant
attendance. Both of these were themes
of conversation among all the members
of the Conference, even among the oldest
members.
I append such part .of 'the list of ap
pointments as will interest your readers.
