Gold has evidently touched its lowest point for the present at 131. The tight money market had no effect on it, and hdiders are unwilling to part with it at anything like present 'quotations. Any relief of the present stringency in money matters would cause a considerable rise, since it is confidently believed that large shipments of coin will have to be made duying the month of April, and prior to the payment of the May interest. Government bonds were dull and lower, and old 1865'5, 1864'5, 1862's and 10-40's all declined about % per cent. The recent issues are also lower, and 1865 7 5, new, sold down 112%12)113. This Is a decline of over one per cent. since Friday last. and yet no desire is shown to re-purchase at these figures. The gen eral impression now prevails that bonds will sell at lower rates before the month is Out, and that when money is easier heAvy purchases will be made fofa rise. In stocks the market is well sustained, on Stocks that are generally very weak on a tight market, whilst the favorite shares like Fort Wayne, New York Cen tral, and some of the Eastern shares, have heavily declined. Money on call loans zommands seven per i l cent. in gold, and a commission. Our local money market is devoid of any, interest, and business is dull with a poor supply of money. ALLEGMEN Y CATTLE MARKET. 057105 OF PITTSBURGH GAZETTE, / MONDAY, March 22, 1869., CATTLE—There was a di mished num ber of cattle on sale to-day, compared with last week only six hundred head, and the difference in quality was still greater. The market, in consequence of the limited supply, was a very stiff one, and holders experienced no difficulty in realizing all their cattle were worth, though we do not believe that the aver age price today was as high as that of last week, which was owing to the great difference in the stock. Last week there was an unusually large number of good cattle, while this week the number of good cattle was unusually small, so that when we take the quality of the stock. into - consideration, prices, were fully up, perhaps a shade higher, than those of last week, As will be seen by reference to the re port of sales, prices range from 6 to 9 cents for prime to choice smooth fat steers, and 7 to 73 for fair to medium do. SHEEP The supply of Sheep was again small this week being less than live hundred head, and, as the case tor some time past, the demand was by no Means active. There were several small lots of fancy sheep, but these, of course, were held at , fancy prices, including one drove from Butler Co., averaging be tween 135@140, which was held. at ten cents, gross weight, with nine bid.
