the • market steady, and prevent a re

Weilo.not say that this is a fact, but
give it as the surmises of some of our
dealers, without vouching for its correct
ness. The Allegheny River continues
in fine navigable condition, and it is
estimated that between fifty and sixty
thousand barrels will reach here,. in
bulk boats, within.the next few days.

PITTSBURGiII MARKETS.
OFFICE OF PIT . ISBUIME GAZETTE,
THURSDAY, Febrtiary 18, 1868.
Trade In general Merchandise contin
ues rather dull, though time _is now
_
near at hand, when, an improvement
may be looked for. With the exception
of Groceries, however, there is no excite
ment,. a light demand, and no material
change in values. Sugars are still excited
also Molasses and Syrups, and holders
generally are not disposed to sell, prefer- .
ring rather to hold in anticipation of a
still further advance. There has been a
grand speculation in '!Sweets" within
the past week, and those of our dealers
who were fortunate enough to hold big
stocks prior to the advance; can now, if so
disposed, realize a very handsome profit.
There is one thing certain, however, the
advance, will curtail the demand consid
erably, though, judging from present
indications, prices may go still nigher.
