WhDNESDAY. February 17, 1869.
The sudden attack of the bond and
stock market' YeSterday, has caused a
general heavy decline of (rom one to
three per cent. • Gold alone remains sta
tionary, at 135 to 135%; The Clique find
it absolutely necessary , to sustain the
price of gold in order to keep np the
price of bonds and stocks. A heavy de
cline in gold would aisO break the bond
and stock market and bring ruin on
many of the ballleaders. 1,,, ,
In bonds there was a further decline
to-day of about % . •Per coat. on ititi likls,
1040 s and 1861 s; the 1817 and new 1865
were steadier, but are also expected to
go lower 'filial anticipated` lower quota
tions in ..EUtope. The bear party offer
large lOW of bonds without finding ;pur
chasers 'at the quotations, and should
money remain tight, a • further decline
may be looked for. •
Stocks were weak and drill early this
this 'morning ; .at ,the noon board de
clined further one per cent. and closed
steadier at the afternoon board, but dull
at the close of business. Should the
