PITTSBURGH PETROLEUM MARKET
MITI= OBTHE PITTSBURGH GAMUTS"
TUESDAY, January 19, 1869.
The Market has again taken another
turn upward, and, as always is the case,
when there is a reaction either way, there
was considerable excitement manifested,
plentY ,i, of buyers and but very few sellers.
4!..Dtw rp has advanced to 57%058, but
tor some time past Antwerp has not been
regarded as much of .a criterion; indeed,
that market now seems to be influenced
by our own instead of our markets being
,controlled by it. The . Boston Bulletin, re
garded as a very reliable commercial jour
nal, reports the stock of oil in the world on
the first of January a minion of barrels
short compared with the year preceding! It
is but proper to reuiark, however, that
this is a disputed point, and one, which, in
the absence of full and accurate statistics,
it is very difficult to determine. It is
generally. conceded,' we think, that the
stocks ,beth in this country and Europe
will fall short of what' they were one year
ago, and that the conaumptiYe; demand
has been and is Milt steadily, increasing,
'but as to whether there is a deficieno : of a
million of barrels, it la difficult to . Saar
i:eine. The . point is, a very important one,
as on this, to some •extent, hinges the fu
ture of the maritet t and it is to be regretted,
as we remarked some time since, '.that
liOdatina in ragft'il.P. oi are
nbt more reliable and satisfactory.
The Crude market was Srtn to-day, , with
an improved deinivid, and with more bay'.
ore than Sellers, prices ruled higher. We
can talort tiaga ntna an *Pat at /W. which
la an atigrance of from % to a %.. compared
with yesterday. ' 8,000 bbla "put,"
Mx months from date at 14, and $150; and
1,000 bbisroast? at 14 and > J200..
amingsiD
As already . intimated, was firm and
„lomewhat excited today, and a pretty
sharp advance, (simpered with yesterday,
was established. Bile 500 bbis each March

85; 1,000 each Jaauary and Febaary at MX;
