The weather yesterday, was cold and
winter-like, and, thus ' far G. A's. predie
tions have been verified. - The thermome
ter at four r. M. was down to 28, and the
barometer at noon 80 and rising,' indicating
dry cold weateer. Both rivers are falling
steadily with fourteen feet in the channel
last evening by the Allegheny marks, and
two or three 'inches less by the Mononga
hela marks: .

The inclement weather is retarding work
on the new boats'somewhat.
Tho arrivals since our last report, Include
the New. Yorlc, from Louisville; Glasgow,
from St. Louis, and Armadillo, from New
Orleans, all with fair trips. , The Armadillo
among other items, has a considerable
quantity of sugar and molasses.
The Camelia. from Nashville, is due
here to-day. She is advertised fora return
The Sallie was advertised to leave Cm
nati for Pittsburgh on Tuesday.
The Lorena and Leonidas were ex
pected to arrive at Cincinnati on Tuesday

The Maggie Hays, Capt. B. C. Martin,
Will be the first boatout for St. Louis, as
will also, the Messenger, Capt. Jesse Dean,
for. New Orleans. These are both first-rate
boats.
The Emma No. 8 arrived at New Orleans
on the 10th. -
Business was more animated at the
landing yesterday in consequence of the
numerous arrivals; shipments, however,
continue light, 'which is owing in part, at
least, to the bad condition of the levee.
—The Franklin County Court has
voted 875,000 for the improvement of Ken
tucky river navigation.
—The towboat Kanawha, coming out of
the Kentucki river, last week, sunk two
loaded coalbohts at the head of Red
House Chute. They belonged to the Coal
burg Company.
—lt has been resolved to build steamers
to run between the Falls of St. Anthony
and, the head of navigation on the Upper
Mitaissippi. -St. Louis boatmen are Inter
ested in the movement.
—Captain Jeseph Schofield, formerly en ,
glneer on the Cincinnati and Marietta
packet Edinburgh, purchased the little
stern-wheeler Fawn, last week, for the
Muskingum river trade.
—A St. Louis dispatch says: _ Several
mountain boats Will be strengthened , with
the new requirements by the Board of Un
derwriters in regard to insurance. The an
noun w ent that . another line to Vicks
burg, t go into operation in the Spring,
has caused considerable excitement is boat
ing cirdes.
—The Empire, which sunk in the Mis
sissippi some days since, had the following

—The Vicksburg Times of recent date,
says; The Visuanita passed down twenty.:
five days out from Pittsburgh, having left
that smoky city on December 11th. She
delivered her freight here uuder, a protest
entered at Memphis. We saw a copy of
the instrument and it simply save, the
Wauanita " met with a disaster . " The na
ture of which, also time and place, was not
stated; nor could we learn any p articulars
of the accident.
