The gold market remained steady to
day at 135%, with a very limited business.
The whole force of speculators is concen
trated on Government bonds, which ,
-ad
vanced to-day about one per cent. but clos
ing lower. The investment demand is
rather light at the advance, and parties
who have bought at the recent 'decline
haVe realized to-day, which kept the
market well supplied. Smaller bonds are
Man in demand at advanced figures; 1862
bonds are now as high as before November
last in Europe and exchange near the ship
`ping point of coin, these bonds are more in
demand for export.
In stocks, Cleveland ez Pit:sburgh was
the feature of the (Joky; a scrip dividend of
15 per . cent.; being declared last night the
stock advanced 3 per cent. to-day. A
strong effort was made a few days ago to
depreciate the stock, and even the early
sales of to-day were at a deciline of 1% per
cent., but the Pittsburgh parties appearing
in the market as buyers, the stock ad
vanced to 88%. The rest of the list is
strong . , Init without any special 'advance.
