Government bonds also felt the abate
ment in the stringency on money, and a
general rise of about 1 per cent. took place
to-day; the '67 bonds are especially in de
mand, particularly from small investors,
but at the advanced figures, people axe - less
dispdsed to invest. ' *
Stocks have taken a new start to-day,
- ,
and since the election in Cleveland &
Pittsburgh went against the Erie combina
tion the stock advanced from 831, to 85g.
New . York Central and Erie advanced and
Fort Wayne touched 118 X, a rise of five
per cent. within two days. North Westein
and Ohio & Mississippi shares are strong
and higher. Express shares aro strong,
but have not advanced; they generally do
not advance much until it is positively
certain that ,the money market will re
main easy.

In local stocks but few of the new corn•
panies are in favor, whilst all the old
companies could readily be disposed of at
full market quotations.

to give way. The quality of the Cattle is
reported rather better than for some
weeks past, embracing several pretty good
droves from Ohio and Kentucky. It was
thought if alight concessions were made
buyers would take hold pretty liberally,
as there are quite a number of them here,
and they want to bny and will buy, pro
vided they can do so with a fair prospect of
realizing something for their trouble.
Prices, compared with last week, have
undergone but little change, though, as we
have already intimated, it is probable that
there will be a alight decline. The sales
reported were as follows:

The ,excitemont in the Hog market still
continues, and notwithstanding the ar
rivals were considerably larger than last
week, prices are firm, and have still fur
ther advanced. Prime Philadelphia Hoge,
which sold on. Saturday at 103 i to 1035, sold
yesterday ;and to•day at 11 to 11%', an ad
vance of from 35 to of a cent per pound,
and there is a like advance in Yorkers'
which may now be quoted at 9% to 106.
Th es e are fearful prices. Just think of
it, one - thousand good Hogs' at present
prices, will cost shoe thirty thousand dol
lars, and it is not surprising that packers
have withdrawn from the market, as it
would take three hundred thousand doaara
to put "up ten thousand Hogs, which is not
too many, even far a Pittsburgh• packer,
though we have no idea that any of our
packers will kill that many at present
prices. The sales since the date of our last
report foot up 5,296 head.
The Sheep market has again been very
firm this week, and that, too, in the face
of increased receipts, and, compared with
last week, prices have still further ad
vanced. We now anote fair to good at
4to sc, and prime to extra at 6 to 8X --one
drove of fancy sold -to-day at 6%. The
sales since the date of our last report, on
Saturday, foot up 5,281 head, and, as we
have already intimated, the market is
strong, with a demand fully equal to the
supply.

The Petroleum Association,- at the last
meeting, passed alesolution unanimously,
abolishing the system of selling oil on
what is known as a "briyers option," i. e.
agreeing to deliver a quantity of oil in a
given time, the buyer having the privilege
of naming the day, in that
_time, that ' he
would receive it. This action was taken to
remove the possibility of the buyera., con
spiring together, and calling for, their oil
on the same day, for the purpos e of "corn
ering" those who might not be able to get
their . oil in Philadelphia on the day •so
'named.' The new system adopted is much
more favorable to the refiner, whilst it will
prove equally acceptable to the exporter as
it gives to the formeT the privilege of nam
ing the day that he will be prepared to de
liver his oil, and the latter * has ten days
notice of the same in which to prepare his
vessels etc., thus making any day a "de
livery day," and removing one of the very
serious troubles which the trade has labor
ed under, viz., crowding the half months
' business all into one day. The above ac
tiOn of the association does not, prevent
sales of "buyers option," where the option is
for three months or more, nor does it pre
vent purchases of Refined oil by' our refin- -
ers,on buyers option, to cover, sales already
made by them. On the -.whole, we think,
the association has done lik.very wise thing;.
in taking the entire control of their oil out
of hands of the specuLatOrs, and placing
it where it belongs, in the hands of the
refiners. . ,

CRUDE.
The market for Crride was very unset
tled, and feverishle-day, and while some
operators thought= that. their. were able to
detect manifestations of weakness, others,
again were unable to discover any percep
tible change. The sales were: I,ooo'bbls on
spot at , 14;,..1,000 January, seller at 14; 1,000
February at 14; 2,000 first four months, buy
ers option, at 15; and 400 'Smith's Ferry"
on spot at 12%. Comparing the sales of
yesterday and to-day, there is no quotable
change, though as we have already inti
mated, the feeling is decidedly feverish,
and operators, generally, are at sea.

The market for refined also continues
excited and unsettled, without however
any important change in prices. - The early
months appeared a shade weaker late this
afternoon, January having been sold at a
slight redtiction, - but there' is still consider
able inquiry , for. the , more I advanced
months, and for these 'prices are fully sus
tained. It is said, that the great porportien
of the buyers now are . short sellers, who
are anxious to cover. We can report 1,000
bbls for January at 31; 500. each for Janu
ary•and February at 3.1 W. 500 first six
months, buyer, at 35; and two "linos" of
500 each from January to.Jupe at 33. Jan
uary to, DeceMber is quotable at 3035 and
lux advance of for each, subsequent
month.
