regard to the sinking of he Empire, from
the Cincinnati Gazelle: The Empire left
here fer New Orleans pn the 9th inst.
There she reloaded with sugar and mo
latAes for this port. All a point thirteen
miles`below Natchez, on Sunday night, she
was tied up to the bank on account of fog.
The bank caved in on her, sinking her in
ftfteen minutes. Both 'boat and cargo are
a total loss, but, all the passengers and
crew were rayed.. The rlEmpire . was re:
built about two years ago at New Albany,
from the Jennie Htffibs, and was owned by
parties residing in that eity-6. H. J. Beam

ued at $16,000. The interest of M. Beamer
was, insured in the National, of Cincin
nati,for $3,100; the Boatmen's of Cincinnati,

King, and we were unable to ascertain in
what offices. Mr. Beanser was in the city
