attended with great excitement. The settle
ments of the Shorts were generally made
at 150; several failures however, are 're
ported, but none Of iinportant character.
Judge Barnard to-day issued an order,
upon application of Isaac N. Jenks,
returnable December 29th, directing offi
cers of the Central to show cause why
the Company should not be restrained
from issuing certificates on more than
twenty-three millions of stock. The order
has not yet, however been served. It
corresonds with a former one and it
said the Central Company intend to strict
ly observe both. Between twelve and four-
teen milliOns of Stock have already been,
presented to the - Union Trust Company
and 80 per cent. certificates delivered
on the slime. The sudden rise in Central
caused a firmnestin the balance of the list,
chiefly by stimulating ,pnrchsuiers to cover
previoua speculative salea. The largest
dealings, next to the Central, were in
Northwestern, Rock .Island, Michigan
Southern and St. Paid, all :of,which adyan--
