There was quite a commotion in it cir
cles to-day, occasioned by quite a numberof
very unexpected, and to some parties,
pleasant "calls,. " and the market was con
siderably excited, though in Refined there
was but comparatively little done. It
would appear that the New York clique,
which bought so freely some weeks since,
are commencing to make requisitions for
their - December oil, not that they want the,
oil, but, from what we can learn, the ob
ject is to bring about a "corner," and force
those who are short to pay the difference
between what .the oil was bought at and
whatever it may be worth on the day of de
livery.
This is no new thing in the oil bus
iness. Several attempts of a similar kind
have bn made, but they have nearly al
ways resulted disastrously to those who
were in the - ."ring" and were instrumental' -
in bringing it about. The "calls" taday,
it was said, aggregated between fifteen and
twenty thousand barrels, and it is expected
that the amount will be largely increased
tomorrow.
CRUDE. -
The Crude market was considerably
cited, to=day, and there was considerable
inquiry for next year, while for December
the demand was rather light. The ales

for first six months, sellers option ; at same
price. December, seller's option, was
offered at 1234, ' without finding a bnyer. 4
From this it would seem that refiners gen- '
erally have about all the oil they want for
the balance of this-year, or else they , have
an idea that they can buy it cheaper before
the month is Out. -
