RIVER NEWS.
The river continues to rise slowly at this
point with scant seven feet in the channel
by the Monongahela marks last evening.
The weather yesterday was undoubtedly
the.worst of the season. A steady mixture
of snow and rain fell during the entire day,
whileunder foot there was a mixture-of
snow, water and mud, rendering it exceed
ingly disagreeableibr pedestrians to navi
gate, and ont-door business — was almost
completely suspended.
We have no arrivals or departures aside
from the regular packets. The New York,
from Cincinnati, and Armenia, from St.
Louis, are among the first boats due.
The. Bayard, in command of Capt. Geo.
D. Moore, leaves for Cincinnati to-day.
She will continue in the Pittsburgh and
Cincinnati packet trade until the McCul;
lough is able to resume business again.
The Savanna arrived from St. Paul last
evening. This is her first appearance here
Since last spring; she usually comes here
to winter. ,
The Coal City was getting a tow ready
last evening, and will • doubtless take her
departure to-day.
The Glasgow, Capt. Andy Robinson Jr.,
will be the drat boat out or St. Louis.
The Rate Putnam. enroute from Pitts
burgh to St. Louis, was. at Louisvillion
