The true cause of the advance of % per cent. on American bonds in Lon don, was principally caused by.the rise of the rate of interest. There is no cause_ whatever for a rise in the, gold premium so long as our exports continue and no bonds are returned from Europe which would at once occasion a decline of the premium on them here and make reship ping unprofitable. The 4brindapce of cash gold and the approach of the January, pay ment of coupons ehould keep down the price of the premium. The lively bidding at the Government sales would 'make it appear as if gold was scarce, which,is not the case, but this is duo to rivalry among the different banking bonsai, and serves them as an advertisement that costa nothing. L2l Bends, in sympathy with the advance in gold, were firmer and higher, and the easy money market gives parties an opportunity to carry their bonds and earn the January interest; the demand fdr investment, how ever, is very light, and is confined to the smaller savings of the Poorer classes, while monied men will wait until file close of the year., Stocks were dull arid declining. The litigation in the New York Central caused a decline from 1343,1 tol, 12134, and Erie to 136 X; Cleveland; ex-dividend, 8114; Fort 'Wayne, 11134. North Western shares de 'alined 6 per emit., on the supposition that the CtTapany will be restiained to make a dividend on the common't stock. The re openiog of the books of the Merchants trulon and A.merican'Express companies advanced the shares about 2 per cent. Stock dealings are tame at present; the stupendous frauds\anditrie 4. ries among the o ffi cials of some N octh oads have made the public shy. t\ The demand for Allegheny Valley Rail road bonds has ceased at the'advanced fig. urea. The want of an Exchiinge where buyers and sellers could meet has king been felt in the community; yet, wheneVer it was tried it proved to he a failure—we \ are evidently not a speoulittive people. • \ Money scarce; and btisiaess dull.
