Gold is made steady at to nominal "quota tion by speculators in bonds and stock; at about 154% at the Oleic of baldness, some large lots were offered by foreign ex . ohange dealers, and the market declined to 134 X. The sales by the government amounted to one miilio dollars this week which were sold yesterday at 133 80.100,and , today at 134%, both a shade below the nominal quotationt of the gold room. The increased shipments of [cereals, oil, cotton and other produce, as also the , gold sales by government, and the large payments of coin in January next, will all contribute to depress the primitinil and should Con gress soon pass a law legalizing specie con tracte, and make government bonds abso, . . lutely payable in coin;.; the demand for , bonds would largely increase from abroad, and thereby avoid the ghipment'of specie. Government bonds wore firm during the day, and had advance& about gto X per , cent. - or new bonds, and, one per oent. for the old 1862 Five Twenties, in which there is a corner; at the close, the market was , rather. easier, and the: i outside quotations could not be obtained. 1 In stocks tut little bp doing, and quota tiotta are merely nominal; the appointment of a receiver for 'the pried road has had the effect of depressing the 'stock to 137 X; what the clique will do with their stock is more than anybody can divine; they will, no doubt, make a desperate effort totivaise the price of the stock so as to be enabled to sell out on. In Western - shaies the busi fleas is confined to clique stocks, but the outside public have no confidence in pres ent prices. Fort Wayne is the only strong '1 stockheld and bought[by parties for actual • investment, or in order to draw the next dividend. Express shares were very firm, and advanced from 13 to 5-per cent. 'ln local stockp -the market - is quiet; transactions are confined to private sales, and do not become generally known ex cePt among_ few pirties who make it a speciality. I • ' Business is very dull. Money commands from 12 to per cent. per annum; for good paper; third rate paper is unsaleable. Cloning quotations as received by Ph. B. There has been but Ilittle increase of ac tivity in butilness, but what has been done, has put matters in better - shape for the closing in of winter; by an increased pro:: portion of shipments;of grain as compared ' with receipts which; has considerauly minished the quantity in . store here.. Wheat being the article which counts the heaviest in value, will serve as in index of the amount of value held in grain in store as compared to previous years. A few weeks ago, when the check to the east ward movement 'of grain was causing WY immense accumulation here, which seemed a formidable load with which to enter the winter, the amount of what in store 'was about 1,600,000 bushels. Extra efforts were, however made to get it o ft , private / capital was changed from advancing on the grain of-country shippemi to carry it to New York, the banks strained qt point or two, and took a few time bills and so by hook and crook, and wititthe dimished - receipts, the amount -in store is now reduced to about 1,000,000 bush**. At this period in the two preceding Years -the - amount of wheat in store is about 600,000 bushels. which, at the then current prices of about 51,70 to 51,72 per bushel represented - about. the name . aggregate va lue' as the 1,000,000 bushels do now—a little over $1,000,000. Of the other /ptodtibe in store, the-Varia tions in quantity and value, as `compared to.last year, would still leave the aggregate value nearly the same as then..-. —Closing quotations received by ISMeis' T.
