There was still great exeltement to-day
in Wall street; prices of gold were very
strong in the morning at 136 k, from which
the market suddenly broke to 184%, again
rising to 18534, and closing at from 1843% to
134%, with a firui market; the transactions
were enormous, and one per cent. per day
was, charged for the loan of gold, thus
making It a loss to speculate on the de
cline, even a t , a difference of one-half Der
cent.
Bonds • had advanced at the, first board. -
absut X per Cant.. but after the ecline, gold
bonds sold from X toy per cent. less, and
although firmly held, the transactions :
were on a limited scale. Should money
become'imerce, a temporary' :decline in
boilds is expected before the meeting of
Congreeue. -
Stocks were much excited,' and „the
knowing ones predict that the decline is
only temporary, and, that the Erie clique;
.with Mr. Keep at the head, have a large
amount of money engaged till the end of
the, ear, and expect to carry their favorite
