and Capt. Shaw expects to get away imme
diately, if not sooner. She is conceded to
be one of the best boats of her class, that
was ever built here, and that is saying a
good, deal.
Capt. Wash Ebbert expects to have his.
new boatready for business about the first'
ofJanuary. She will be a'big carrier, and
Capt. Ebbed contemplates making his first
trip to New Orleans.
It is rumored that Capt. James McDon
ald, who has been engaged in the oil busi
ness for several years past, contemplates
going bacg to his old vacation, shortly.
City. McDonald is one of our most skilful
an experienced steamboatmen. He was
fo a considerable length of time, engineer
of the once famous Pittsburgh aud Cincin
nati packet Buckeye State; since then he
has built and commanded several tine 1
steamers, and that, too, with great success.
The Armadillo, Capt. D. H. Swaney, is
filling up steadily for New Orleans, and
will take her departure early next week.
The Messenger, Capt. Jesse Dean, is an
nounced for St. Louis, and the Upper Mis
sissippi forthwith. She is one'of the best
boats in the trade. Mr. James Russell
still retains charge of the office.
We should like to know what has be
come of Capt. John S. McMillan. His
fimilliar face has not been seen about the
landing for some time.
Capt. Ed. Evans, late of the Westmore
land,-has assumed command of the Leoni
das, and will \ i at once load her for St. Louis.
Capt. Reed has not as Vet fully deter
mined for what point he will load the Kate
Putnam, but it will most_ likely be St.
, —The Arghisy (Caft. Vandergrift) is load
ing at Evansville for Memphis.
—The steamer Dew Drop has returned
from the upper Ohio, and is again in the
Catlettsburg and Louisa trade.
—Cotton is accumulating at Shreveport,
and also at Camden and points intermedi
ate on Ouachita river and along Arkansas
and White rivers.
—On the arrival of the Lizzie Gil at
Memphis, her colored crew "jumped" or.
They were subsequently arrested and, ta
ken before Justice Simon, charged with
mutiny, but were dLschargen on the ground
of Insufficient evidence. _
—We clip the following Items from the
Leuisville Courier and Journal: While
