The above Plroclamation was written. In dill ex
pectation that' its public appearance this morning
would be timely to prevent any encounter of citi
zens. The danger of the public peaenhas been-an
ticipated by this night's events; and 1 noW call upon
each and every good citizen of this community, it
respective of all parties, to assist me byl their
indueroc in the suppression 4 that which
would he regrettcd by our entire comninnity, and
for the first time stain the file fame of Pittsburgh.
As a means toward accomplishing this good and
desirable end, I earnestly suggest to the ClUbs of
either Party a complete cessation . of all paradetr,
now that the day of election Is so near at hand,
when the public peace must be preserved, for the
sake of the undisturbed sacred right of the ballot. •
