Both length, the port flu flues were llapsed their entire Bretrning its original shape on its port side for almost its entire length; the starboard flue having evidently been the first to giv,e way; the concuasion 1 forcing it against the port flue caused it to 119bie in the manner and direction as Above stated. Both heads of the boiler , snataitied., injuries sufficient to require i thetaobi replaced by new ones, which, to , ?Mier With two entire new flees, were put The port due of this boiler s gave way da ridg thfefillof 1863, while at the landing at Pittsbiirgh, Pennsylvania, when it was im mediately replaced by , a new one. It is probable that the new flue, inserted at that time, owing to its expansion and contrac tion being greater than the other, produced an irregular strain. upon ,the starboard flue, causing it to give way gradually at the laps. It is the opinion of this /laird that the accident - was occasioned btaltigivinkway or separation of thn iron in portions of the' starboard flue, which gave away gradually, and which could not be detected.
