Orders executed for.the Purchase and Sale of STOCKS, BONDS and GOLD. '6ljr littslntrgij etarttr. OFFICE OF THE PITTSBURGH GAZETTE, FRIDAY, Oetober, 2, 1868. Gold was firmer to-day, at 139% to 139%; closing at the former figure; the tendency is downward solong as government is sell ing, and money seven per cent for call loans. Should gold decline much below its present prices, then a sharp reaction must follow as it is evidently the cheapest article in the market, and an advance above its real valde, must be looked for. It seems that the government had not cal culated to sell gold at present prices, but was forced to by the banks drawing the currency on their 3 per cent certificates. The state of onr _export trade will not yet warrant a heavy decline of gold unless there should be heavy export demand for bonds by actual investors in Europe, and not by specnlattve holders. But after all it is only defering payment to a future pe riod, and will be heavier on us to pay them. In Government bonds a sharp reaction took place, and if it can be dependent on indications, the market is likely to go much higher next week. 1862 s have adVanced X per cent.; '64s, X; '6:ss, '6Bs, %, and Ten Forties, X If the banks are free discoun ters on Monday, an advance of 2 pea cent. may be looked for, and stocks may be de pressed or rather, neglected. The stock dealers• were free buyers during the de pressed, having secured cheap money, in advance, but. the government speculators were already heavily loaded down with bonsig, and could not procure money cheap enough to buy when the market was at it its lowest point Stocks are strong, and are tending up ward; the coming week may witness a big rise. The hearty approval with which the resolution was received is a good indi cation, showing that even in Chicago, ope rators are becoming disgusted with this manipulating of the market, and the parties who lorm a combinati nof this kind and come out of it second best, as is generally the case, need not expect much sympathy front the public at large. We never had a "corner" in Corn here, but several at tempts have been made to .'corner" the market, and in nearly every instance, parties trying to make the "corner" gqt worsted. The oil business has become too extensive to be controlled by a clique or clique., with any degree of success, and we predict that in the filtnre, as in the past, all movements of this kind will result dis astrously to those having it in charge. —Says the Chicago Tribune of Thursday: The excessively bad weather to-day has de pressed business in thegoods trades, and the still drooping prices of Wheat, and the • corner in Corn, have brought legitimate business in the grain line almost to a dead look, so that there is very little grain going forward, and the course of every kind of business is to some extent unsettled. Pri. cos of the two grains mentioned have con tinued to go up for Corn and down for Wheat, so much contrary to the expecta tions of many that one heavy 'iallure—that of R. V. Robbins & Co.—has been the re sult, and it is not improbable that some smaller operators are being seriously crip pled. i The active demand for Money con tinues but banks stilt accommodate, all of their customers, others are putting them off until after statement day. —Closing quotations received by James T. The market was again very sensitive to day, and while there was nest to nothing done, a firmer feeling seemed to develop° itself, especially late in the day, but whether it will amount to anything important, time alone will tell. We have but a single sale to report 900 bbls spot at 12; and this may be regarded as the ruling figure, a s we Are cognisant of other offers to sell at the same figure. BRADY & CO FINANCE AND TRADE, OFFICE Ow Tall PITTIIIIRGEC GAZETTE, FRIDA.T, October 2, 1868. • • CRUDE» . . firmer market and higher figures, which is attributed to the fact that Cleveland buyers are again in the field in considerable force. and advance is nearly always established when Cleveland enters the market, REPINED The Refined market was also r very sensi tive to-day; and, as in the case of Crude, there was but little done. 'We can report sales in lots of 3,000 bbls, all for the last half of October at 31e, while late in the day there were offers for the suite delivery at at 313,0, and some hoidera were asking 31c. The advance was, attributed to a Pittsburgh operator buying' pretty freely in Philadelphia: and from this, it is fair to infer, that there were few, it any, buyers aside from the one just referred to. It is said that there aro a good many "short" sellers for October, and it is this, more than anything else, that strengthens the impres sion that prices will rule hither during the month, as it is thought the "shorts" will be anxious to "cover up."—October prom ises to be fully as interesting in the oil busi ness as September was.
