Severe Accident
John Scott, a ybung man employed as a
Painter by • Messrs. J. & H. Phillips, met
with a severe acciden4esterday morning.
He was engaged in painting the exterior of
of the establishment of Geo. Albree & Son,
corner of Fourth avenue and Wood streets,
and for this purpose had placed a couple of
"jacks" from the windows on the third
story on the Fourth avenue side, and laid
across them a board, upon which he stood
while at work. It seems that in the centre
of the board was a large knot which weak
ened it, and caused it to give way suddenly
under the weight of the workman, precipi
tating him to • the pavement be
low. Falling upon a cellar door
the force of the fall was somewhat
broken, but as it was-he received se
vere internal injuries and had his left ankle
badly fractured. Drs. Le Moyne, King and
Sutton being immediately called, succeeded.
in reducing the fracture, after which the
sufferer was conveyed to his home on Penn
street, Twelfth ward. His Injuries, though
painful, are not necessarily dangerous,
though it will be some time before he is re
covered.
An Improvement
Heretofore the Election Board of the
Third ward, Allegheny, have occupied a
room in the School Hiiuse, and this natur
ally interfered with the schools on elec
tion days. The School Board of the ward,
with a design ofremedying this matter, are
fitting up a room in the basement of the
new wing for the especial use of the Elec
tion Board. The entrance will be from
North avenue, and the approach to the
window will be so arranged as to preclude
the possibility of crowding. The new ar
rangement will go into effect on next elec
tion day, and will, no doubt, prove a very
convenient and useful improvement.
Tile s Ring Entered.
Two chaps of pugilistic tendencies, named
respectively Hart and Rimsley, had sire n- ged for a pleasant little scrimmage yester-.

of the privy ing. The stakes • were $lOO,

side the Ce letery gates. The agreeable
contest was about to commence in , the pres
ence of a goodly company of tbe short
haired fraternity, when Lieutenant Wool
dridge, with l iwelve assistants, made his ap
pearance, Which suddenly checked the
proceedings before a blow had been struck,
and caused a shaking oflhands between the
principals and the , dispersing of the gath
