The market was 'fairly supplied to-day
hough, there was no • surplus, and with a
' pretty sharp local demand, and some in
quiry for shipment, prices were fully sus
tained, particularly for prime fat cattle, of
which the offerings were light- As will be
seen by reference to the report of sales, the
best butchersstovk sold at from 7% to 7%,
with some few extra reported at 73;. Com
mon and scalawag stock appeared to move
slowly, as is generally the case; - and:to
effect sales, holders were obliged to accept I
lower figures. , r
The recentrains having started the grass
again, farmers are not rushing this kind of
stock to market as, they: did - -previously,
when it looked as if the pasture was going
to be very light this fall, if not a failure:
There is another feature in the cattle
trade which it may be well enough to no
tice. The panic which decently; Prevailed,
not only here but all over the country, in
consequence •of the cattle plague, thas al
most entirely subsided. No new cases
have been reported, for 80111 Q time, and as
consequence; those ifrhe baVe cattle are-nbt
so anxious to sell, while buyers, having be
copse reassured, aretaiiingliold With-mbie .
freMoixi, and this with the fact that the
pasturiT promises' well; causes a better
feeling.and as will have been noted,a firmer
feeling has prevented in most of- •the lead
ing markets during the past two weeks,
though prices have undergone but little
change.
Stock Cattle meet with a continued fair
demand, and we continue to quote at 4% to
53, according to 'quality and coutition.
