RIVER NEWS
The river Jell some two or three inches
during Saturday night, but was at a stand
nearly all , day yesterday with seven feet
in the channel by theMonongahel marks.
.0n Saturday the Allegheny was zeported
falling at Oil City, 'but as there as been
considerable rain since then we eV I enter
tain, hopes of a good rise in that stream.
It was reported yesterday that MO e water
was coming out of the Monongahela, we
presume- The weather continues cloudy
and sultry, with frequent . showers f aain.
The BaYard. from Parkersbur , and
Robt. Moore, from Portsmouth, have ar
rived since our last report, and the J. N.
McCullough, from Cincinnati, is dim here
to-day. ' . ,
Quite, a number of , towboats ,have ar
rived, and many have departed again with
tows of coal. It was aupposed on Saturday
that about a millon and a half bushels
would be sent out on the present water,
mainly destined for Cincinnati and Louis
ville.
The Armadillo, Capt. D. H. Swaney, IP
filling, up steadily, and will soon be ready
to take her departure for St. Lolls and
Missouri.
The Bayard, Capt. A. S. Shepard, is the
regular packet for Parkersburg to-day,
leaving promptly at noon. We maci , here
remark that the Bayard has bee n , thor
oughly repaired and is in excellent bondi
tion for busini-ss.
The J. N. McCullough, Capt. George D.
Moore, is announced to lea; e for Cincin
nati to-morrow at noon. The McCullough
is the finest steamer that now comes tb this
port, and she is,
and deservedly, too; very
popular in the Pittsburgh and Cincinnati
packet trade.
—The Bellevernon was to have-lbft St.
LOuis for Pittsbugh on Thursday . .
'—The New York was advertised to leave
Cincinnati for Pittsburgh on Saturday.
—The Emma NO. 3, en routs froth' New
Orleans, passed Memphis on Wednesday
last.
—The towboat Alps was to have" left Cin
cinnati for Pittsburgh •on Friday with a
tow of empty barges. -
—Deputy United States Marshal J. E.
Richardson has taken charge of the b. M.
Seekler l at Gallipolls.
—The.J. N. hieCullough was again com
pelled to, lie over at Cincinnati on Tursday
in oonseciuenee of the rain.
--Capt. Barney Martin. left Cincinnati by
railon-Thursdayfor St. Louis. where he
will at once load the Maggie Hays for Pitts
burgh.
—The' Talisman has been chartered
to carry a load of 'people' from Nash

pany have bought the steamer Lady f;yace
of Capt. W. C. Watts and E. Blaokmore for
$7,500. The latter parties bought her here
last spring. at Marshal's sale, ,for $ 3 ,000,
and have since put but slight repairs on
—lt is said that the Delaware river is to
ibe bridged at Philadelphia, by an arch, in
three spans, each one a thousand feet long,
the whole structure .beinK nearly four
thousand,feet in length. There will be two
draws, formed In the shape of a fork, and
four hundred feet apart. . The entire cost of
the structure will be #2,000,000. :
