FINANCE ANI-TRAIS-b7-- OFFICE OF PITTSBURGH GAZETTE, FRIDAY. August 28, 1868. The gold market keeps .firm at from 1443,1 to 145 N; both "claques abstain from moving in any direetion, but gold has - been less plenty, and the turn of the market seems to favor the buThi, although there Is nothing now that could advance gold but the movements . of a set" Of determined speculators. _Exchange is still dull, and is selling one per cent. below the ordinary rates. Government bonds are strong, and higher prices are looked for. The large short sales"made prior to the decline have compelled operators to buy again before they could cover at low rates, and now era losers by the transaction. The money market remaii easy, contrary to all ex pectations, and the facilities offered for .carrying bonds are so great on an easy money market that the operators fora rise generally make the most out of the market. Stocks are very firmly held except. Erie which is dell and lower. The cliques are again buying and nob Ody knowshowhigh the market may go; an easy money market may advance prices, and cause a double loss to the street and the operator of the West. During the past week - the Wool market has been characterized by great activity, and the bulk of the tine Wools of Pennsyl vania and West Virginia have been good. A large portion of the crop in thief section Was bought at 40 to .430 at the outset; since -which time nearly all the desirable clips have been taken at 43, 44 to 450, and in some cases for choice Wools, even higher prices have been paid. At this time some large clips of choice. 00l are held by the , growers at 500, while other clips, that buy ers past by, and would not pay. over We, with ' abatement for • heavy Wools, are held at 450. Since Wools have advanced to the plea sant prices, buyers are more careful about taking heavy and unnierchantablelnts, and will not buy them unless all tht heavy Wools are thrown out with the proper de duction.
