The gold market was very , weak at the ' close of the board, selling from 144%d0wn . to 143%. The short , interest being' much reduced, and money being dearer; lower rates are likely to be made-during the next few days; also on September first some five millions of gold are coming into market for interest of ten-fOrty bonds, the bulls will have bard work to sustain the market. Government bonds are still very , dull and foreign, bankers are no longer buyers; a large short interest is still uncovered by the large dealears which would indicate that lower prices are expected. - The stock market is weak in tone, al though quotations favor a rise. 'Erie is . moving in independently of the market, and looks still very dull and weak. Vari ous rumors are circulated that commodore Vanderbilt had sold - out, and that the stock was good for nothing. The balance of the list is slightly improved. The New York Stock quotations to-day as received by Mr. Ph. R.
