The general market are quiet though
moderatel t y active with a, fair volume of
business in the aggregate. There is .con
siderable anxiety manifested to get at the
general resnitbf the harvest and to learn
whether the crops are an average or aboite
or betow„as on this hinges the value of
grain,,and this is what operators, particu
larly speculators, want to find out. The
Wheat crop is generally conceded to be
large, lark& than for Several years, though
it is reported inferior in quality in some
localities. Mr. R. T. Kennedy, of the
.Pearl Mill, and Who,.by the way, is pretty
:good authority, states that his advices from
- nearly every point report a good yield of
Wheat. Corn has improved wonderfully
under the influence of the recentrainS; and
the same is truo of Potatoeaand Tomatoes.
Oats are reported light in this section,while
Bye is above an average. In regard to
Barley, we hear but very little, and cannot
therefore speak intelligently as yet. -
BUTTER—Is in steady demand and we
can report regular sales of good to, prime,

CRU,DE—The Crude market, 'was
•ex
ceedingly dull and neglected to day and
there appeared to be no buyers even for the
little that was offering. Spot oil which
during the early part of the week was held
at 14M, was offered at 14, .without meeting
with any response, 13Mcfs 13% being , the
best bids that could be obtained.f All tho
year buyers obtain which in the early part
of the week sold at 12% to 12', but no
buyers. Indeed the demand botlrfor pres

ent and future delivery was exeeedingly
light, which is nearly always the case on a
declining market, buyers holdini back in
anticipation of a still further decline. Our
advances from Oil City represent: the mar
ket as being very dull also, although 85,40
still seems to be the asking pride, we did
learn that there were offered to sell at 15,-
40, which if, correct, would indicate a de
cline of from 10 to 20 ets per bbl within the
past few days. ' '•
RRFINED- . -The market for Refined is is
much the same condition as the. Crude
market, little or no inquiry and, o ff ers to
141 at a reduction Compared 'with tithe
early part of the week, prices have declined
from three quarters to a full cent, and
even.at the decline,: the market, is exceed
ingly dull and lifeless, with but little show
of any immediate improvement. The last
half of August was quoted to-day at 34, in
dicating a'decline of 3 of a cent within the
past three days, as it sold readily at 3474
and 'many were confident of it going to 35.
September which sold at was cdnsidered
equiyalent to 36 has dropped, to 84 1 k, and
there has been a decline of about a cent. .

months. This backset was just ;about as
quick and, to many, as unexpected as was'
the forward movement, and since the re
action there has been next to nothing done.
