' His injuries were temporarily dressed, and 4.3 was forthwith ordered to Mercy lios --pital, where he was placed under the care of 'Jr. B. B. Brashear, Surgeon in i charge. Chloroform having been carefully admin istered, Dr. ° Brashear, assisted by Drs. Ml], MeMeal and McGirr, of the hospital staff, removed several pieces of depressed bone, equal' in 'extent to two square inches, or r more. Ttiefracture extended forward from the summit'above the left - ear, as far as the lriiddle of-th forehead, and backwards to the Middle o the ear. During the opera : tion a conaid rable quantity of gravel and pieces of elate were scooped - out, together with clotted blood and brain substance. The operation was well borne by the lad, and his condition this evening is promising:, Fatal Ar.cldeat. Alatal accident occurred at Scrubgrass Station, on the Allegheny Valley Railroad, on Friday last; the particulars of which are as follows: Isaac Swift, a young man about twenty years of age, was working at a well owned by his father, H. Swift, of 1 Pittsburgh, and on Friday was drawing oil from the tank and shipping by rail. When the last car was fille‘and all but about ten 'lnches of oil takenTrom the tank, it is sup posed that young Swift went into the tank to fur the receiving pipe, and in ascending ,the tank after - completing the wark, was ',. „Suffocated, by the foul air, and fell back in `to the oil.- His body was found on Mon day evening, and an inquest held by Jus -; tics Marks. The evidence before the inquestproduced, substantially, the above facts. The funeral took place from the residende of his fatherat the Galeriallouse, :, on Tuesday afternoen. A Brakesmetn Wedniaday night an accident occurred at Derry. Station on the. Pennsylvania Rail road, which resulted in the death of a brakesn4lnt 'named Burke, in the employ of the company. It appears that the de- , 'mused was coupling cars, wheli by some accident he tripped and fell under the wheels, which passed over both legs, mu tilating them in such a manner as to ren der amputation necessary..; The operation was performed, but the patient failed to rally, and died about four o'clock-the next morning, a few *hours after the amputation. The deceased was an unmarried man and , resided in Temperaneeville.
