' PRA4 l Esti The journey ,from Chicago to Omaha; Nebraska; is certainly a pleasantand desir eble one, especially if the traveler takes the Cider:o 4 o and North Western Railroad. This route is supplied with magnificent, rolling stock, and we believe, the first class . cars used for the transportation of passengers, are Vastly superior to those on-any other line in the country.. As a general thing it will hold good. that the Western roads look more careiullystter the coMfort and conve nience of passengers than any of the New England or Middle State lines. , Why such should be the case is a difficult matter to de termine, but it is sufficient to say that such • is the case. The scenery between, Chicago and Omaha is neither grand nor tame. It is strikingly odd' to the Eastern traveler and ,:nothing more: The ocean of rolling preries which extend on either side, of the creek for hundreds of miles together, will please the • fancy and till.the soul with larger ideas than it has been accustomed to entertain. The extent or these vast green fields Which greet the eye from Indiana to Nebraska, is earful to contemplate end to think that every acre may 'one day be made subject to the despot lam of' the - plow or converted into bustling towns and. cities,is to award our country a destiny reserved for no othegin the world. It' we were selecting a site for gathering together at final - judgment the souls clothed in tine body - or these who will appear for ;reward or condemnation in God's eternal -day, the prairies would comniand our mien. tion, tor they could afford elbow room to ell, and, aside from being.solled with Chi - cap, would prove as attractive as any green view on the earth, •Leland not excepted. • final judgment takes place in this world; according to the prevailing belief, might it not be probable that the boundless plants of the„ est have been reserved for that purpozo by, the God, who made them? •i 'At various points along the railway be ° :twen IL is 'andOhicago the prairies are under cultivation and ' , we. are told are very rich in agricultural Yields., New_ towns and vil lages are springing up at available points: - and many emigrants are .settling on the specially inolicing rolling - lands of lowa. The day -cannot be fvr distant, in view of the great -tide of emigration which has set in irten eastern points as well as Europe, in thls direction, when a great, part of the spare lands of the •stretch of country between 1 -Chicago anikOmaha will be peopled, and millions on millions of wealth be added to •our country from toe productions of the', now grays growing and; neglected prairies. Itilever can outstrip Omaha nor rival it in 'commercial importance, but It may preserve the same relation to that :city as Allegheny does to Pittsburgh. Thero ;is much jealousy existing between the two cities, a tact patent to the excursionists, in asmuch as the good , people of. Omaha were anxious to keep them from seeing or learn ing much"about their rival city. This feel ling is natural, brie/ever, as the two' cities are directly in opposition.to each other, but as the MiSsOuri river, with its swampy banks, lies between them,* Omaha has the best of the fight,, catching all the western trade on its &Woof therive, The depotsand 'tram fer office of the Union -Pacific Rail road will be located in Council Bluffs. Omaha covets this size, but by prociamn-• tion of the late lamented Lincoln, confirmed by the Departni( lit of the Interior and ac cepted by the •• Board "of Directors of the Union Pacific Railroad, the award is made fo Council Bluffs, which fact necessitates the building 01 a railroad bridge across the Missouri. This will provejff great benefit to Council Bluffs, and may possibly give it , the lead of Omaha. Council Muffs will eventually be the ti-rminus of seven railroads, viz: The Union P.milic Railroad, the Chi. cago, Rock Island and Pacific road, the Burlington and Missouri River road,, the Adierican Central Railroad, the Chicago and Northwestern Railway, the Council Bluffs and Sioux City Railway, the Council Bluffs and St. - Joetidis way: Of course these roads will vastly benctit the city, and that they w.lll terminate there, together with the fact that the lands about and adjoining it are among the very best in the country, will' prove an lucontive to emi t tration. City lots and firm lands adjacent to 'the" town are - held at reastmattly low figures. E*IOBATION . , Let it be understood that we,do not ad- Ilse emigration to the , west.
