Government - bonds were less firm to-
day, with only a moderate investment de
mand, and no dispokitionis mimilested to
buy and hold for higher prices, especially
is this the case with the Five Twenties

the julY issue. Ten Forties remain firm
at 107:54; also, 1862 s and 18655, old issue.
Eighty-one bonds are much neglected; 'ac
cording to the Pendleton doctrine these
bonds are no better than 1865 Consols or
18645. The recommendation of .the Demo
cratic Convention of paying the` Govern
ment bonds in currency finds an interpre
tation which differs widely from the com
monly conceived idea of the masses,' that

CRUDE—The Crude market was again
dull and weak to-day, but a single sale re
ported, 2,008 , bbls-500 each from, August
to December, seller's option, at 143ic.- Spot
oil was offered freely at 140 without finding
buyers, and future deliveries ware offered
at 3.435 c;
,the former shows a decline of
fully a cent, and, even at the reduction,
the demand seemed to be very munh re
stricted, and the market was devoid of that
life and animation which prevailed during
the week-up nritil Friday. It isnot a little
remarkable that while Antwerp has ad
vanced to a figure not before attained this
year our own, as well as the eastern mar
kets,,

pair, while within the next forty-eight
hours it is just as likely to be very much
excited, and Bto 50 per gallon higher. The
ma i n c ause for the present reaction lies in
the fact that the production, it is, believed,
is steadily increasing, the latest and most
reliable advises we have place ..the daily
yield between eleven and twelve thousand
barrels, which is an , increase of . about two
thousand, barrels within the last three
months. As an offset to tbis,howilver, it
is stated that the demand for consumption
is, and will be considerably larger this year
than last, new marketshavingbeenopened
up; it is also alleged that about ten thou
mind barrels per day are being exported to
foreign countries.
REFINED—The demand for bondeck oil
was also very quiet to-day, though, cow %
pared with yesterday, prices eye wider=
gone no quotable change. Co pared uith
Wednesday and Thursday, hog} ever, there
has been a decline of from one t)) one and 'a
half cents; and, as we have already stated,
the market is quiet; even at the reduction.

GRAlN—Wheat is quiet, and but little
offering, either old or new; quotations may
be given at $2,20 to $2,25, aslto quality. The .
supply of old crop in this section of coun
try is well nigh exhausted, and it is too
early yet for new. ,Corn is firmer.and Softie
holders are asking an a vane; we are
quoted sales of prime Yellow at $1,09, but e
this as yet is about three ttt uts above the
market. Rye is scarce andlin the absent()
of sales may be quoted at $1,75 to $l,BO.
Oats dull but unchanged lat - 77 to .7cB on
track, and 80c in store.
PROVISIONS Bacon iis firm and
higher. with an improved 'demand; we. now
