Gold opened weak it 140X,with ddeclin

vance of U. 8. bondi In the • European
markets, but on receipt ofthe alight decline ,
of bonds in London, :the market became
firmer at44ON 140%, and eloied at 140 x;
also, there were some purchasers on ao
count.of to-morn Ta. shipme nt. The gold
room' nd its hangers on are still In favor
of a rise but the importers are firm hi
their belief that gold must be lower during
July next, and it seems as if the litter were
correct ;broli.ers and gold speteditioxi!efien
looses sight of the considerable shipments
of other parties besides New York. All the •
cotton ports are generally exporters whilst
their Imports amount to but a small per
centage of theamount of export. Thus, the
figures between export an import will
change considerable when total business of
the country is com Paired with that of New

Government securities opened very firm
today at an advance of y, to X, per cent. on
the Ten Forties and old Five Twenties; the
home securities were less in demand, al
though the large amounts are bought on
speculation. Verylinv '.bonds-'.are offered
at the counters of our. dealers, but ex
changing goes on very rapidly, and parties
are anxious to secure the privilege of con
version which' expires on the 80th. •
Stocks are dull. and every advance is
quickly lost by sales to realize. There is
some movement on foot. in• Cleveland &
Pittsburgh to carry it up to par on account
of its regular per ,cent. - quarterly ark

The weather has again cleared off pretty
well, and the ricant rains followed with
warm sunshine' will be of incalculable
benefit to th e growing crops, pa r _
ticuly Corn and !Potatoes, which are a little
backward. Thi prospects for a splendid
yield of Wheat ere never better, and with
an average crop, we may look for cheaper
Flour, and better times. Already new
Flour and Whaa has made its appear ance ,

be able to announce an arrival of new
Flour in :this market from Tennessee. It
will be some time, however, before there
will be sufficient new Flour to meet the
requirements of the trade, and it is not im
probable-that Int: the meantime, an advance
may be established, as reports unfavorable
