—The Nationalgurrency bill, which pass
ed the Senate on Wednesday, has been so
changed since it was• brought in by,,Mr. -
Sherman that it is now a measure of but
little cotnetautlre iMporbmee, and'vvillpre
lbably be accepted b,y rthe Rouse without
much oppositlen. On Thursday, , Senator
Cattell, from the- Committee : , on Finance,
reportedback the bill to provide for a fur
ther issue of temporary loan=certificates; ,
for tile purpose of redeeming and retiring
the remaining' of the outstanding com
pound interest• notes. This is a:measure of
some importance, and, oh We score of
economy, will probably Sad--favor even
with those who are opposed to every move
ment that seems to= tavor inflation of -the
currency, as the issue of lime certificates
will, as compared with the funding, of.conl
pound interest' notes into 5-2% bondi. If
certificates are issued they will ,be held by
the banks ae_ reserve, Rad. will nlitve an
equal amount of greenbacks. But they
will cost the > Government only 3 per mal l
per ; anntninterest,,Whereas,it-this (toms
pounds are funded into 5-20 bonds, they
will cost the Government 6 per cent. in
gold interest- . • • •
