.aoth rivers continue to recede steadily
at this point, with scant five feet in the
Monongahela, and six feet in the Alle
gheny. The weather yesterday was clear
and pretty hot in the sun, and while this is
not very good for the river, it is just what
is needed to - ripen the grain.
The Bayard, from Parkersburg; and Ing-
Mar, from Wheeling, arrived and departed,
and the Robt Moore cleared for Ports
mouth. The St. Charles got off for Cincin

be the first regular packet out for that
point.
The America, enronte from Pittsburgh
to St. Louis, was at Cairo on Wednesday.
The towboat Simpson Horner was also at
Cairo the same day.
A St. „Louis telegram, under date of
Wednesday, gigs: Owing to the high wa

upon the sand bar opposite Atchison. A
large quantity of Merchandise has been

A late Memphis paper has the following:
Aknotty case has arisen within the past
few days, whh mill gsome work no
doubt, to our ic shrewd' c
limbs of the law.
The creditors of a merchant of this city
have been trying to force him into bank
ruptcy.' Armed with the proper papers,
an officer from . Cincinnati proceeded to a
paint in Arkansas, where the aforesaid,
Merchant has , a store, and seized his stock,
which was brought around on the last trip
of the Liberty.
The officer, fearing a replevin if the
goods were landed here. had them put on
board the Des Arc, lying on the opposite
side of the river at Hopefleld, until he
could_ get a Cincinnati boat to take them.
The Memphis merchant, hearing of the
whereabouts of his stock, had papers served
i?pon Capt. Elliot, owning the Des Arc, en
joining him from letting the goods go out
of his possession. They were carried off,
hoWever, in the night, and now Capt. Elliot
is held responsible for them. Whether the
fact that 'the notice was served on the Cap

Arkansa hat the Des Arc was turned
into a wharfboat without his consent, wig
change the face of matters or not has yet to
be learned.
