of temperance lecturers, to the effect that the

daughters, who had been sent there to be

lawyers," is as far from the truth as any
thing could be. The story has been the
rounds of the papers, not only of this coun
try but of Europe. It has been denied
time and agein, but temperance lecturers

There never has been ri,ferusla patient ad
mitted to this Asylum. There have been
fifteen or twenty applications for the admis
sion of females dudng the past year, and
most of these were opium cases. During
the last eleven years I have been in charge
of an Inebriate Asylum (ten years in Bos
ton and one year here), and am well satis
fied thatthe per centage of drunken women

there is one, it is an anomaly, and quite as
rare as high crimes of any kind.
